The room is 14' x 12' The rug is an 8' x 10'. Would I not center it in the room?

When you angle chairs, they do better with a round table. Square or rectangular tables look best with the chairs straight on. Seems if the rug were centered you'd have two feet of flooring exposed all around the rug, right? Doesn't look that way in the pic, but could be an optical illusion. Personally, I like leggy seating to sit entirely on the rug for a more grounded effect. If we could see all of the room and other furniture, our suggestions about the chairs would be better.

Yes, I completely agree a round table would be better. Try and talk my husband into letting that file cabinet go. :-( I am a little embarrassed by the rest of the room so I won't picture it. The fabric on the chairs have seen better days so they need to reupholstered. Blue would seem like to best choice but I already have two blue chairs in my living room.

The choice I made getting the area rug first and one that might be too small for the room was such a mistake. I think if I could find a good fabric pattern and color it would help make the room a bit more cohesive.

I truly thank you for your input, maybe while you are looking around you will find something to show me.

A four chair grouping can work, even if chairs are mis-matched.

Reupholstery is so expensive why not doa couple of leather wing backs maybe in navy leather depends on the rest of the furniture in the space so maybe show the whole room. That table looks like an old file cabinet and I agree a round table would be much nicer We found our cats never bothered with all our leather furniture BTW.
