Shopping the on-line auction.....again!

We have a local on-line auction, you make your maximum bid and either win or not. The items are all stored in a local "warehouse" so you can go look at anything you are interested in before you bid, but you have to drive to that location to pick up anything you win.

This week they have a really nice John Deere tractor. I'm going for smaller items than a tractor, though, last week I bid on an All American canner, the small one that holds 4 quarts or 7 pints. I already bought my big one there, a really old All American but it works great, I love it.

And so, my latest purchase:

Yeah, it looks brand new, but there are a few marks inside, so it got used at least a couple of times.

Still, I think I got a screaming deal for my $46, so I'm happy. Some of those small batches when I'm just finishing up "end of the garden" canning will be just the right size for this little workhorse and I won't have to wrestle the big one up onto the stove top.

I just knew the people here would be excited for me, so I had to share, LOL.

I can only post one picture in my opening thread, for some reason, so here's the top of it, still has the stickers intact, so I guess I don't remove them before use. No instruction manual, but I guess I'll find out, unless someone here tells me I should peel 'em off:

I looked at that model on All American's website and the new ones don't have labels on the lid, so if it were mine, I'd take the labels off. Maybe leave the label with the model number on, if its not etched on the canner elsewhere. You saved enough on that buy to go Christmas shopping this weekend!

Naturegirl, I planted those walking onions you gave me, I'm waiting for spring!

Tom, thanks for that, I was thinking that the heat would compromise them but there are marks on the inside that showed usage, so they obviously don't melt. I'm gonna peel 'em off, thanks!

I've never used a pressure canner before, because of fear instilled in me by my mother when I was a child, I suppose. But with the uncertainty I've been feeling about what's going to happen in the near future, I felt I might wish I had one. I did some research and ordered that exact canner! I feel so good knowing I bought the right brand. And, let me tell you, it was LOTS more than $46!!

If I decide to risk my life (lol) and use it this summer, I'll probably be here asking for advice/support.

Olychick, don't be afraid, we'll be happy to support you, I'm always glad to add another addict.....um.....convert to canning, LOL. I've used pressure canners my whole life, and every woman in my very large and extended family used them too, and none of us ever had any kind of mishap. Well, at least not a mishap that involved the pressure canner. (grin)

You made a good choice, Olychick. With the "jiggler" you don't have to worry about your gauge being calibrated and there's no gasket to replace, plus they are so thick that they keep the temperature much more steady than my much older and cheaper Mirro did. I love the All Americans, the Cadillac of canners.
