Add a runner or paint the risers or both. You could paint the skirt and rails.

Or tile the risers or stencil them the bottom one is actually vinyl peel and stick

I think the staircase and railing are very pretty. The shiny blank wall seems to be the problem. Really like Glo's ideas, especially the dark paint and pictures.

What about painting the risers, railings and newel posts black? It gives a very regal look to a central feature of the house. I love that paired with black doors. Leave the treads the wood stain.

Can we see it from another angle and further back? I think it’s pretty, I wouldn’t mess with the stairs or risers. But the wall might be able to be painted or wallpapered.

There are lots of options for embellishing a staircase.
