A UFO gets finished, yippee!

Happy Thanksgiving everybody.

My sewing machine is broken & I recently attended a Social Sew at my LQS to be able to sew. Since my machine is down, I'm trying to switch my focus to UFOs & doing the projects that have the least amount of work left to do.

This was the first of these UFOs, an experiment using mostly shirting fabrics donated to my Guild.

Now to decide, do I give it to my friend who long-arms which would make a charity quilt, or maybe to try to quilt it myself. Larger than I'm used to working on. Hmmm.

I like that one and if it were me, I'd tie that one. It just screams "Tie me! Tie me!" It reminds me of the vintage "make do" quilts that used to be hurriedly tied so that they could get done and used to keep someone warm.

You made a really interesting and well-balanced scrappy. I like it a lot. If you don’t have your friend quilt it, would you hand quilt it or wait for your machine to be repaired? I could see a curvy FMQ design working well on this one, or is it too big to wrestle with?

Thanks Ladies. Yes Geezer, it was an interesting exercise in fabric placement. Several others have commented on how well it's balanced, as Lois comments; I'm pleased I was able to achieve that.

Thx Lois, good question & nice idea, but I don't FMQ (yet).So if I quilt it, tho' I like your idea (contrasting allover curves), I'm considering maybe concentric rectangles, sort of echo quilting.

I have a print of blue flowers on white I'm trying to piece together for the back. To be continued.

Very nice. I like the different sizes of strips that go into each block. I'm saving my husband's worn out flannels to use some day.
