I'd say if you can spend some extra cash, get a nice fancy round (43'/r) table. It will allow you to accommodate more people when needed and it will be practical.

5' round table can fit in that space

A 48” round table can seat 6 as long as the chairs are not arm chairs and IMO a round will also look better in that space . Make sure the table is a pedestal type for sure

Will seat six........crowded I have a 48. It is wonderful at four people, okay at five, and six is a no go for me. I'd rather eat at a diner counter at rush hour breakfast : (

I value my elbows......?! and a banquet size chair is not in my dreams, either.

Thank you everyone....We go from modern to mid century modern...Our design style is very eclectic...We want to be somewhat minimalistic in this home...We feel a round table will look better in that space since we have such a long counter area with additional seating...

There;s a reason it looks good with four chairs. Really comfortable chairs : ) encourage lingering.
