What is the ceiling height, ( eight feet?) the dimension of the island in inches??

I wasn’t sure on that, sorry. It’s 8 feet. 40 x 74, bigger than I thought.

Jan, was just re-reading your helpful comments in the other thread. I got kind of lost in the LED debate and failed to realize you were also addressing my island question. i Love the idea of the two small lamps. Good to know that the pendants should disperse light down-I didn’t know.

Total re think. The sky light REDUCES the island by 23 inches, to 51 inches. I will add I detest skylights.

You are going to be limited to a single and a bit larger.

The center of the island is 37.5 inches. The skylight intrudes by 23 inches. Make CERTAIN you can locate the box at center, of the island and that is fine if you can. : )

You want the BOTTOM of the shades, 36 inches off the counter top

Something linear and modern or contemporary.

I really like the second option that @groveraxle posted. I think it balances with your island very well as opposed to a larger pendant.

You can't change a style preference for the OP. She seems to want a more "farmhouse", and very warm feel. Warm light, warm effects. See her other thread too. Look at what she posted in the linear she has her eye on., above. It's size appropriate , she was drawn to it enough to post it.

I will say one thing? The op is wanting warm light. Skylights are never that. No matter the exposure. Irrelevant in darkness, and cold "overhead" light in daylight. : ( lol there should be a LAW..)

Have you ever considered doing a rail kit that includes pendants and spots?

The center light you have in the room could be used as a central power source to light everything. Even basic white track can have pendants adapted to it.... ( knowing everyone will have something to say about that lol). But lets be practical here OverALL better lighting is do able in this space.

the pendant was my idea, not the electricians. There was already a hole there, so that’s what I chose.

I would rethink that................you could get 2ble the spread of light from a flush mount or "disc" light there.

so effectively you will have a pendent a center light and another pendant as your main lighting for the kitchen?
