is this countertop too dark for my small laundry room?

My laundry room is approx. 6'x7'. We're putting a preformed countertop all the way across on one side, but I'm not sure if the one I picked out is too dark for the space. We recently replaced the dark brown cabinets over the washer and dryer with white ones, and I was surprised at how much brighter the room looked once the old cabinets were removed. I'll include a picture of the countertop but it's not a good reflection of the actual color--it's actually a soft black and medium brown. I think the color name is Labrador Granite.

It will be fine. however, all your other elements are warm and creamy. are you willing to paint in order to make the dark countertop fit in? If not, then get a lighter, more golden granite.

I would paint all of the trim work in that room a bright white. the stained oak does nothing for the room.

while you're at it, paint the walls a brighter white too.

The Labrador Granite is a pretty dark color. Typhoon ice would be a lighter color.

The dark gray countertop will clash with everything else you have in the room - the yellow walls, the tan tile floors, and the wood trim. Why not keep it light with a lighter countertop that coordinates with the floors and trim.

This is a small room....keep it simple and go with white or a lighter color. I would

-paint the room a light taupe. The current color brings out the yellow in the tile floor

-rethink the wall where you are putting the counter. I assume you are removing the utility sink? Under those should go basket for dirty laundry.

-upper are should be mostly hanging.

I agree with other posters - the granite you have chosen doesn't coordinate well with you color scheme and doesn't go well with your flooring. Would suggest you change to another lighter and warmer granite or change the paint and flooring of the current laundry room. Good luck!

Where are you putting this ? Maybe a picture of the whole space right now it seems to me this is small piece of counter we are talking about

The counter will go across the whole side of the room where the sink is. It’s a 6’ counter. The sink will be replaced with a drop-in one. I want a shelf underneath the counter also, so two short laundry baskets can go under the shelf and two more on top. I‘m going to put in a small hanging bar that folds out from the wall...a valet I think they’re called...I don’t need much hanging space.

The problem with repainting the trim is that all the trim on the main level is darker wood trim...walnut, I think it’s called. It’s not my favorite, but the window frames are also that color so I think we’re stuck with it. The trim around the door in the laundry room is slightly different in color than the trim you can see opposite it, which is what the rest of the main level has.

It’s a laminate countertop. My other color choices (from Home Depot’s Hampton Bay) are typhoon ice or golden juparana. The countertop pictured is actually something like HD’s spicewood springs, but with less brown.

I would still paint the trim in there white and IMO that small amount of couter will be fine no matter what color you choose

The trim is fine. Of those options, the golden juparana is best with your floors, with the warm tone and less contrast. You can repaint your walls after it is installed if you decide to.
