how long in pot.. does pot drain ... is that pot plastic or clay?

could the media be wearing out in this pot .. so its not draining like the others ...perhaps a harbinger of things to come in the other pots? ... are all the pots the same???

i see the drip thingee... how often do you water.. when it doesnt rain ... are you sure that dripper was working.. prior to the rains ... could drought be an issue ...

things dont happen all that fast with shrubs and trees ... what you are seeing now.. might be damage dating back to last winter.. or spring.. or whatever.. dont just focus on current rains ...

if it is.. pot in pot... you could lift the plant out and depot it.. to look at the soil.. roots ... etc ...

if not.. then it might not be easy to lift the plant out ... with that constricted neck ,..

if and when you repot.. you might look for a pot to put inside the pretty pot ... for this purpose.. in the future ..

The plant has been in that pot 18 months. The pot drains well (I just tested). The pot is clay.

The soil is the same as what I use for rhododendrons, about 1/2 1/4" sized bark and 1/2 Turface. The rhododendrons were tested on pure bark versus the bark/turface mix and did better on the mix. I do not believe the bark has degraded much yet since it started out as 1/4" chunks and not sawdust / fines.

The drip tubing goes on about three times a week when it is dry. I just turned on that zone and tested and the drip emitters on the affected plant work.

Could it be a lack of fertilizer? Maybe a magnesium shortage?

I guess the next step would be to repot it and examine the roots.

It would be nice however to figure out why three identical pots are doing well and this one is not.

there is always one weirdo in the bunch ... lol .... kind of a life lesson ... it includes friends.. neighbors ... co-workers.. and plants ... lol ...
