The beauty of this idea is to find a cabinet you love, that is deep enough to house both a dishwasher 15-18" wide as well as a frig. and the sink. I say a dishwasher, because I have a combination butlers pantry-laundry room that has a sink, an 18" dishwasher then the washer and dryer. I had a whole bank of cabinets installed above all the way to the ceiling, topped with crown molding. Room is 9'6" x 5'6'. I love it.
You may have to shop a bit, but these cabinets are available, both new, re-cycled and vintage. Some beautiful older TV and wardrobe cabinets are being sold in consignment shops and can then be retrofitted as this cabinet was. A Beautiful job. You can even go SHOPPING in your friends homes who may have an older TV cabinet they would love to get rid of... I am looking at one right now, that is in the Arts & Crafts/Stickley style to use in my 320 sq ft walk out basement.
