SKS Ranges - Any Experience?

Hi All,

I’m planning a new kitchen. Was thinking of going Wolf, but am struck by the Impressive specs of the SKS (Signature Kitchen Suite, LG’s high end) branded ranges. Huge oven(s), especially in the 36”. What looks like it might be a griddle on par with Wolf’s for high temps and heat retention (meat sears, not just pancakes)? Steam/combi?

The built in sous vide on the 48” dual fuel could be brilliant or gimmicky (I‘m leaning towards gimmicky), but I’m intrigued by the rest. And, I wouldn‘t even consider this if it weren’t backed by a company with the statute of LG.

But I can‘t find anyone who actually owns or has used them.

Any thoughts or experience to share?

”a company with the statute of LG.”

You consider that a positive trait????

I actually meant “stature”, not ”statute” (nor “statue“).

Point is, they have resources...not a startup.

I take it you don’t like LG?

Neither LG nor Samsung get a lot of love on this site. They are big companies. They have a lot of market share. They regularly come out with new models that have the coolest gimmicks. But it is rare that you'd find any praise for their quality of service or the reliability of their appliances.

If you are willing to spend the money and if you want a quality stove, look for the likes of Wolf, Blue Star, or LaCanche (all of these three cover different market segments; tell us more about what you really need, and we'll steer you into the direction of which brand better meets your needs).

On the other hand, if money is more limited, there are less "exciting" but perfectly fine brands. LG might fit that bill with some of their models. But you probably would have to be prepared for more service calls and/or a shorter expected usable life. Not all of all their appliances have ready availability of spare parts after the first few years.

They have lousy service and parts availability. They focus on early adopters to technology who won‘t use their product for very long, and will purchase the next latest and greatest soon after that thrill is gone. If you’re willing to spend that amount of money every couple of years, then that might be a product that could make you happy for now. If you’re looking for a one time purchase, I’d suggest something with less gee whiz, and more long term reliability. Like BlueStar.

    Provide evidence of this claim.

Cell phones benefit from having a new model released every year, and from having new "killer features" with every product cycle. This approach is pretty much the opposite of what I want from my appliances. But LG and Samsung treat all their products as if they were cell phones.

It's not as if it's rocket science to build a gas stove. I don't need it to be "revolutionized" every other year. I am perfectly happy with a solid decades-old design. I am fine if the manufacturer uses the same boring industry-standard parts that everyone else has been using for decades. In fact, I prefer that. It means there is ready availability of spare parts, when/if I need them sometime down the line.

Admittedly, there are some types of appliances that are still going through active R&D and where features get refined. And for those appliances, a more aggressive product cycle makes some amount of sense. But gas stoves are decidedly not part of this.

Big Daddy -what did you decide?

Would like to hear more about the SKS range. I took a look at a nearby store. It was really built well and worked nicely in the showroom. The price is just as steep as Wolf except you get these nice rebates like Thermador! The quality seemed on par and in some respects better (for example, their fridge interior was much nicer than the others). It has a steam oven built into the 48 which is nice. Has anyone here purchased and used them in-home? I don't think it has the brand recognition, but from a kitchen design perspective would really fit our layout. We're trying to decide between this or a combination of 36" Wolf DF, SubZero and CombiSteam oven.

R K89, wondering what you ended up buying. I too love all the features of the SKS pro duel fuel range but cant find any reviews on them and absolutely no one that actually has one.

I have an entire kitchen of SKS appliances in our new home. Have been using for about six months. Things I love: the look, features (range is 36” dual fuel, sous vide, gas and induction cooktop with steam/convection oven). Hood is powerful. Fridge makes ice balls. Microwave drawer is nice. Customer service is very good. But, I just had (this morning) a major fail with the oven. While baking bread (I’m a sourdough fan and bake weekly at high temp), the oven started smoking and smelled like burnt plastic. Powered it off, took out my loaves of bread (which were fine, by the way) and opened up every door and window in the house. An hour later, smoke still billows out of the oven if I open it). Nothing in the oven looks visibly burned. I have sent customer service a message (it’s Sunday), and hope to hear back on Monday. I am expecting a service tech with 48 hours and a replacement of the oven if it cannot be repaired. I’m sad. I hope this is truly an anomaly. Will keep you all posted. Finding other reviews on SKS is near impossible, which is why I felt the need to comment here. I hope others chime in. Good or bad.

Smoke coming from my SKS range.

Sorry, first pic was supposed to be a video. Guess you can’t do that here. Here’s a still shot.

Whoops! I just discovered after the smoke cleared that a plastic clip fell into the back of my oven and melted. Not the fault of the oven at all. Can someone delete my post?

I love my oven! If you ever melt plastic in your oven, wait for it to cook and put some ice on it. I wooden spoon will lift it off. Whew!

    Wait for it to cool.

What kind of oven has plastic clips anywhere near the oven to begin with?

Given the color of the plastic blob, I would venture to guess that the plastic clip was a foreign object that was accidentally put in the oven.

Oh, it was all me. A plastic food clip that had a magnet on it attached itself to my baking sheet before it went in the oven. On the back where I couldn’t see it. Totally freaky accident.

@Aebelskiver Oregon- How you are still liking the SKS range after a year? Did you encounter any issues with it?

I like the range. The sous vide is amazing. Induction cooktop boils water super fast and it’s easy to get the heat where I want it. Steam feature in the oven doesn’t make enough steam for sourdough, so that was a disappointment. Love the wok grate over the gas burner. I love the timers on the knobs. You won’t find very many useful tutorials online Or instructions. You just have to learn on your own. One component had a slight glitch that was easily fixed with a new part (display on the far right knob went out). WiFi feature is hard to figure out and is kinda useless. It’s just nice to get notified when the heat reaches the set point. All in all, though, it’s a nice appliance. Not sure I would fork out the big bucks for it in the next house, but I would miss the built-in sous vide. Pork ribs are cooking as I type this!

An Owners Manual is available for download.

The owners manual is VERY LIMITED. You will not learn much about using the range by looking at the manual.

Thinking about buying this SKS pro range or rangetop… would love any latest reviews you can share !

  • last year

Wow, thats a great endorsement. the sous vide looks kind of small but it seems like you can fit quite a bit in it?

if youre able to share - what do you think of the ovens (esp smaller steam oven)? did you get any other sks appliances?

They bought the positive press, and all the negatives have been brushed under the rug. They give appliances and money to influencers to sing their praises. They have paid for all expenses trips to Sonoma wine country, the Adirondacks, Miami Beach, and other places. They pay designers kickbacks for specifying their products.

The only people they don’t pay are the ones who they contracted to do their warranty work.

Rasmussen Design Build sounds like you are sour grapes because your kitchen remodel business didn't get invited????

16 comments, mostly positive press for SKS. I'd say the paid shill remark found it's target.
