Usually the day after. We will be out of town though, so the trees get a reprieve for an extra day.

ASAP!! DH dragged all the stuff down from the attic yesterday. If it were left up to me I'd only have the little miniature one that lights up, I have tiny miniature ornaments on it. But noooo! He drags down several boxes not counting the tree. Then he has a Santa Claus collection and that has to be set out. All I can say is if it was up to me to climb those stairs that stuff would never ever see the light of day ever again. I'm just not into it anymore. I also stopped doing Christmas cards this year. But I don't give him a hard time about it, it's something he loves and it's not hurting anything. Besides he's half German, he can't help himself.

I take the Christmas decorations off and put the Mardi Gras decorations on. So it stays up until after Mardi Gras.

First thing Boxing morning. Christmas is over, no presents under it. Always have.

I no longer put up a tree but all other Christmas decorations come down and get put away as soon as possible after Christmas. I have had my fill of it by then (I've actually had my fill already but just deal with it :-)) and I am ready to move on and get ready for spring.

I never mind seeing Christmas lights and I am happy to see them up all year........as long as they are white!

i have it down and put away by New Year's. if New Year's is on Friday, then the weekend after it comes down... i put up weekend after T.G. so its up long enough for me...

this year, weekend before N.Y. its coming down. i don't want to think about all the work after N.Y's, so getting down before...

Our decorations (no tree) are usually put away sometime during the first week of January. It depends a bit on our travel schedule.

In year's past it was January 2. Then we went for decades without putting up a tree; taking one down wasn't a task I had to think about. This year, I bought a little fake tree and I'd probably take it down right after Christmas, but we're leaving for a few days on the 26th and won't be back until January 1. Soooo, I guess the date is going to remain January 2!

Anytime in January when I feel like doing it. I do all the decorating so I am not in a hurry to take it all down.

I start un-decorating on Boxing Day and have it finished by New Years Eve.

Same as you. I try to get the tree down before New Years Day. We don’t have a lot of plans for anything right now but anything goes, so we might come up with something on the weekend between Christmas and New Years since three grandkids are home from college. Besides the tree, I’ll put away the few other decorations as soon as I can, but they don’t take long. It’s just the mantle decor, decorative pillows, and a few other items this year.

I usually like to wait until the mood strikes...lol...but this year, it’s coming down Christmas night most likely as we will be packing up and moving out between Christmas and New Years to start our gut remodel/addition. Fun times!

I put the tree up usually Christmas Eve and take it down hopefully by the end of January. My back was so bad last year my tree stayed up until June. haha no secret, my friends and family tease me about the tree and tell me to keep it up and change decorations for the season

My mother loved decorating for Christmas but when it was over, she was over it! If she could have gotten away with it, the tree would have come down the next day. She told me for years that, in the South, it was considered "bad luck" for the Christmas tree to see the New Year, so she always had it down by then. She made that up. DD is just like my mother and has been known to remove the tree a couple of days after Christmas.

I used to keep my tree up through Epiphany and I put it up only a few days before Christmas. I liked to do my house decorating in stages - nativity scenes out for the First Sunday in Advent, mantle about 10 days later, greenery a week before Christmas and then the tree 3-5 days before.

When my husband was still living and teaching in Maine, we had to leave New Year's Eve to drive back from KY to Maine so everything had to be down before and put away. After he died, I have been at the tender mercy of my SIL and grandsons - the tree comes down when they have the time, usually right after New Year's but before boys go back to school.

This year only a small tree (going up Fri and being trimmed Sat) and some greenery on the mantle done by the gal who puts the lights on my tree. Nothing else - boys don't have time or inclination and I can't. It does NOT feel like Christmas is coming at all! I hate it...

I always took the tree down the first day that the kids returned to school. It would take me the whole day, but my goal was all boxes of ornaments stored and the needles vacuumed up before they came home.

Anglo, I am so sorry this Christmas is not going as you would like. I know what that is like. I know you are a very visual person, excellent music can bring the spirit in quite powerfully as well.

After Epiphany.

We take the tree and decorations down the day after Ukrainian Christmas. We have lots of old decorations from my DH's Ukrainian side of the family to help us remember them and to celebrate on that day. It works perfectly for us. I we love going to the market and getting all of the Ukrainian sausage and handmade pierogies Etc. The borscht is a specialty of my nephew.

We really are a family that celebrates Christmas. We have approximately four Christmases. We always have our first Christmas dinner with my sister a two or three weeks before Christmas. Another one is with our nephew who likes to cook us Christmas dinner before he goes on his holiday. Of course we always have dinner on Christmas Eve for the Danish side of our family with all of the Danish stuff. We are lucky duckies.

On Christmas Day we put our feet up usually at a movie theatre. It is very quiet on Christmas Day at the movies and we love the popcorn and reclining seats :-).

My mother started making us take down the tree on Christmas day. She would have you take it down as soon as the gifts were gone. My next brother and I pooled our resources and bought the tree ourselves and when my mom said take it down we said, NO it is our tree and we will take it down when we are ready. No amount of whining about needles in the carpet moved us, I vacuumed so what did she care? It is important to me. I start the process normally on New Years day. It takes a while as it took time to get it all put up.

Anglo - the tradition of having the tree down by New Years or it's "bad luck" is one I grew up with also and in my family it predates the generation born in around 1900.

We usually take down the house and tree decorations a little at a time during the week between Christmas and New Years. The tree is always down by New Year's day.

I always wanted to leave it up for Epiphany, but DS’ birthday is just after that so it got to be too much, and the tree was tired by then anyway. Now we take it down on New Year’s Day. (right now we have an unlit, undecorated tree in the stand, and there’s only a week to go! Kind of emblematic of the kind of year it’s been.)

I do like to keep some decorations up, the more wintry, not necessarily Christmas, until Valentine’s Day. By that time, even though mid-February is our worst weather, I’m ready to start thinking neutral, then Spring!

Anglo, I grew up in the South and always heard it was bad luck for the tree to see the New Year! Your mom didn’t make it up.

Bad luck to leave decorations up past 12th Night. (You can remove them earlier, though.)

Spread the word! Eliminate the sight of tired decorations still up in February...or July.

I seriously dislike taking down decorations, therefore I don't put any up. Husband loves Christmas and decorations, but not enough that he'll put them up and take them down. I put up lights outdoors, and am probably one of the first houses to "turn them off" at the end of January. We are always amazed to see Christmas lights on our street after Easter.

I don't put up my tree until about 10-12 days before Christmas, (outdoor lights go up a few days before that) so I leave it until after the first week of Jan. It brightens the darkest days of the year, which makes me sad to take it down. But, it is a real tree, so down it must come!

Tree goes up after December 21st. Usually comes down around Epiphany.

Having a fiber optic decorated tree I move it from a table in family room to the guest bedroom which is hardly ever used. Many times I just put all the decorations in that room till next year.

Wait a minute, I always heard that it was bad luck to take the tree and such down BEFORE the new year! I still hear that! Whenever I take my decor at work down before new years I am told that and roundly scolded for it by many random people! Weird.

I take mine down whenever I feel like it. My work decor I may take down on Christmas night if I am working,which I am this year. I might leave it up until after new years. It's such a sad and depressing task that some years I just want to get it over with so I can sulk,and some years I want to be stubborn and leave it up until it truly is no longer reasonable. No one helps me so no one says anything. Not to me anyway. No doubt they discuss it amongst themselves.

At home it varies as well. Last year i took all the lights and stuff off the tree around the 1st but I kept the tree for a while. It was a tiny real tree, like I have this year. I just kept it watered until it was clear that it was dying and then I just picked it up and threw it in the woods. It was after Valentine's day...

I've heard that the reason for having the tree down before New Years comes from when trees were lit with real candles and the tree quickly became a fire hazard.

Amyloid our club's Christmas trees is up all year. It is decorated for the different holidays and seasons. In between it has red, white and blue decorations.

My tree has the shortest run, I think. it goes up the weekend before or Dec. 23 and comes down the 26th because we usually travel. This year, however, my daughter who lives out of state is coming on the 26th, so my tree will be up as Christmas continues.

To me it's still 'the holidays' until January 2nd. Our daughter's birthday is New Year's Day, and she always liked having the tree there. We've just kept that going...

We over decorate the weekend of Thanksgiving so we take it down starting the 23rd or 24th so we don't have to spend all Christmas day taking it down. I have tried leaving the decorations up but when I wake up the day after Christmas I saw them and thought why are they up Christmas is over.
