Textured fabric search

Had lunch with youngest DD for the Gentry Christmas celebration. The head of blind services announced that after 5 years of fostering and waiting, he and his wife will be adopting a little girl in January. I would love to make them an I-spy using textured fabrics. I have satin, corduroy, velvet, and of course cotton. If anyone has something that could be used and are willing to share, I'd be happy to reimburse for fabric and shipping. I'm using 5 inch squares, so don't need a bit piece.

Thanks.

Beverly, I have minky, plain and dimpled. The dimpled one is lavender and the plain is yellow. I also have some tan felt, and some dark green canvas. Would you like those? I'll keep looking to see if I have anything else.

I just found some satiny, ribbed fabric.

    Beverly,

I have some bits of wool, silk and linen. I'll be happy to send - no reimbursement required.

This is a great idea! I have some fabrics that I think would work and would be more than happy to send to you, if you send me your mailing address.

Those all sound lovely and I will be glad to include them. Vasu and Lois, do you need my address? Jennifer, I sent you a message..

    Thanks everyone,

I hope you haven't moved, Beverly. Are you still on Mountainview? I was going to the post office, so I dropped your little package off this morning. I should have checked first. Duh!

I have an address for you from 2007. Also Mountainview. Let me know if that's still valid.

Yes, that is still my address. Thanks everyone.

If you want more than one corduroy, I have a pretty blue plaid and I have some yellow swiss dot. But they don't have pictures on them like you typically see in an I-spy quilt. Do you want more than one 5" sq? I can't find your address, so please send if you can use these.

Lois and Jennifer, your packages arrived today. Didn't know we had Sunday delivery, but guess we do for Christmas. Thanks so much.

Bev, I'm combining pictures and textures since dad is blind and baby is not. I'd love a variety, thanks.

can you send me your address?

I have a ton of 5" I spy squares. Anything particular you are looking for? (I like participating in I spy swaps and I swap faster than I sew.) Tell me how many you want. I think I have about 1000 of the 5" size. I have all types and colors. I also have a good amount of 6.5" squares as well if you want a particular color or theme. Just let me know how I can help and PM me your address.

Thank you so much! Right now I am working on textures for what I guess you would call an I spy for a visually impaired. If you have any that are large simple shapes I would gladly accept them.

I put a small packet in the mail on Monday. Sorry it took a while. We were traveling right after Christmas and I just couldn't get to the PO before that. My packet has some a soft silk as well as Dupioni, some wool, corduroy, and a few squares if what I think is raw silk but I'm not sure. A tactile I -Spy quilt sounds awesome. If the child is taught Braille, you can write something in Braille as well.

One of those regular I spy squares is seersucker, by the way. I'll see if I have anything tactile that someone else hasn't mentioned.

Vasu, your package arrived today. Thank you so much, I didn't have any of those yet. Her dad reads braille so I know she will be exposed at least. Not sure how I would put braille on a quilt, perhaps french knots. I'll see if my daughter has any ideas on that.

I cut squares today, and found some fabric I had forgotten about. I have a piece of pleather, but not sure if it will work. Somewhere I have some eyelet, and sequin fabrics somewhere, have to look for that tomorrow.

Thanks again everyone, this is gonna be really nice.

I can't wait to see what you come up with.

If you want to get rid of them, I will give them a good home.

Bev, your fabrics arrived safely. Thanks so much.

How has the quilt gone? Is it meeting your expectations? Can you think of any more textures that might enhance the quilt?

It is coming along nicely. I'm putting one texture in a 4 patch, then combining the 4 patches. I have 2 more rows of 4 patches to add and it will be done. We started a Sew Day at church and I'm working on it there. A few of the texture fabrics were quite stretchy and have a small pucker in them, but I'm not gonna worry about that.

I'm cleaning out some fabric this weekend and was going to ask if you needed anything else. Love what you've done!!

Robbi, I have some pieces left from this one, so think I'll do another. If you don't mind, please send them on. Thanks.

    Do you have my address?

I don't think I have your address. I'm still organizing my sewing room and hitting the scrap piles this weekend! I'm sure I have stuff I can send you!

There is no hurry. It will be at least summer before I get around to making another one. If you will send me a message I'll email my address.
