Sara Ann, one of my favorites is Oklahoma. It didn't do too well for me last year. I am hoping that it settles in this year . I love those deep reds.

Sylvia and Kristine, I do hope that Oklahoma continues to be a good one for me. I did notice that during the hottest part of summer the petal count was low. The best blooms were during late spring, early summer and early fall. The fragrance is wonderful! The dark red ones have grown on me recently.

I’m very fond of DARK DESIRE, the darkness of the blooms really came through this year.

Your pics of Dark Desire make me wish I’d kept mine a bit longer. My blooms were puce-magenta, which I found quite undesirable, so she got the shovel.

Ann your Augusta Luise is so beautiful: I hope my blooms look as great as yours next year. This one is a wonderful hybrid tea. I seriously hope Palatine is making a big effort into getting more of this beautiful rose for everyone who would like to have her. It solds out so fast every time.

Kristine I am sorry for my ignorance I assumed you being in the PNW meant you were humid. Diane mentioned her Olivia wasn’t acting as well as she should, and I mistakenly assumed it didn’t like dry conditions. I love Olivia so much and her performance is excellent. Thank you!

My dark desire also turns Magenta in the heat of the summer, I guess it is what it does when it gets hot. Most of the time is stays true red.

Sara I love your quick silver and Dark desire. I grow Dark desire and it is an amazing healthy and dependable and fragrant Rose here. It also wants to eat my entire yard by growing 9 feet tall canes in every direction. I am pruning it 3 times a year to keep it at around 6 feet tall. My DH calls it “the monster”.

I ordered 2 quick silvers from Palatine and hopefully I’ll plant them some time next spring.

I have a lot of roses on 2nd year watch ... if they dont get it together they will hit the pile theres a lot of pretty roses to he wasting time . Thanks for sharing

’Maurice Utrillo’ has been heat tolerant and disease free. I found it at HEB grocery store of all places.

This is a great question! Dianela, DDesire is one rose where our experience differs perhaps owing to your milder winters. Here it is often killed back and suffers from fungal disease. However, it's showy in the mid-border raising its blooms among the lower growing roses I've planted at their feet. It's staying put, but I do wish there were something similar with heavier foliage, but still fragrant.

I have quite a few good new ones, but I'll have to add pictures later. Some of them will probably come into their own next year, so these are just ones that started performing fresh out of the gate. First up is Bordeaux Citiscape (apparently I took no pictures), followed by Caroline Hunt

! Bordeaux is an excellent rose with strong fragrance and BS resistance. The jury is out for the BS resistance of the others, but Peggy M has fantastic foliage, thus far.

Vapor I just saw your post for the first time. I is very interesting to see how roses just act differently in different areas and even in different areas of the same garden. I got Peggy M to try it here and see how it does. OMG I can't get over how gorgeous your Star of the republic looks. I searched and noticed the Antique Rose Emporium has it, so I have added it to my wish list =)

I also love your Dream Land, and The Ascot rose. I had 2 Ascots but had to remove one due to RRD, the one I have left seems healthy so far, but now I am paranoid. Bordeaux has been a total winner here as well when it comes to bloom power and health. Looking forward to seeing pictures of yours also in the future.

Bliss was new to me this year. I really love it. The flowers are huge!

Today's blooms. They arent normally this droopy but it rained buckets off and on the last 3 days. They held up pretty good for such large full flowers.

Dianela, SotR didn't bloom a lot in her first year, but all the blooms were that gorgeous. PeggyM was very slow to start, but really put out some nice canes in the Fall, which is shown in the foliage shot. Perfect foliage. Fingers crossed it remains so! : )) I planted Ascot mid-summer, but may move her in the Spring to make way for Flamenco Rosita. I'm just not sure about the growth habit of Ascot and how her blooms will look with SotR and the others I've planted nearby. Of course, having a narrower rose in that bed would allow me to plant more roses, so there's that!!! :D

Sharon, I found Lavender Crush at the good ole Walmart lol! They had body bag LCs for 8.00. Kicking myself for not getting more. This year, if they have them...I will hoard them all! :P

I think the LC is grafted but who knows to what. I have it in a pot for now. Some of my roses are OR, Some on fort, an some on Dr Huey. I have a lot of roses in pots here.

Vapor & Kristine, You do need Bliss! I am planning another one myself. Sometimes she's peach sometimes she's pink. She is a girl with a lot of different looks but they are all pretty.

Sultry, I have Lavender Crush on order. If mine looks half as good as yours in a year, I’ll be ecstatic. How is the fragrance for you? I chose LC over Quicksilver for fragrance.

Sylvia, it has a wonderful fragrance. I get some lemony undertones but also rose. The smell is much stronger than Quicksilver.

Have you seen benT photos of his Lav Crush? They are amazing. I think his has grown quite tall. Mine needs a larger pot. It got about 6 ft so far.

Quicksilver is really turning out to be a great bloomer here. I have 2 own root and 1 grafted. The grafted one really pumps out the blooms.

I dont have photos but Celestine and Shirley's Bouquet were gorgeous for me this year - I ordered another Celestine from Palatine and am looking for another Shirley this spring - its a gorgeous clear white that lasts a long time on the bush. Plan to put them next to each other as Celestine is a brilliant hot pink with ruffled blooms.

While not a rose I actually bought/rooted in 2019, but rather 2018, it was only this year I realized what a winner I had in Pink Pink. Rock solid hardiness and disease resistance and not particularly water greedy. After rooting others I can state unequivocally it's the rose itself, although the grafted plant is a much faster grower. Always in bloom.

dianela7bnorthal Princess Anne is an incredible rose. She is very healthy and floriferous in our garden as well.

Kenneth, how is the fragrance on State of Grace? I keep going back and forth over it, I'm between it and Lady of the Mist. If I didn't have to order Lady from Heirloom, I'd probably already have bought it.

State of grace I didn’t detect a fragrance and idk she was fragrant? . I have both (of course I would - addict lol) I got lady of the mist last year . Im a hog for oranges ; I got crazy love , brothers grimm , sonnenwelt , Sierra lady , Disney land , surreal , soul sister . But state of grace is top 5 because her bloom power is strong !!! I mean strong . She doesn’t take a break and she’s so vigorous and no disease . She’s deff a back of the border gal .

LOL, killing me. I'm a sucker for pink/apricot blooms... SoG is supposed to have a "pleasant fruity fragrance," so I was curious if it had anything. Good to know she is a machine, and a big one. I was guessing she'd be large based on your pictures. Do you think Lady of the Mist is worth it? I'd rather not spend $45ish on a 1gal rose, but her cupped blooms are nearly pushing me over the edge. I thought she was worth that I refuse to pay 45 for anything from them . nick I have 198 roses I have spent a fortune but not spending 45 my max has always been 30-32 . 45 I feel it’s excessive specially for a 1 gallon now swallowtail has 45-50 david austins but there sending you a 3 gal pot . The financial skills Dave Ramsey taught me wouldn’t allow me to make such a rash purchase ... watch her till she goes on sale . Now if you got it and don’t care go ahead . What a bunch of beauty. I love them all, but really am drawn to Sultry's Bathsheba. It's overstuffed lusciousness makes want to use the blooms for a scented pillow. Silly me. Kenneth's State of Grace is stunning, too. Diane

Alameda: You’ve really gotten me interested in this rose. How is your Celestine Rose doing? Does it a good repeat bloomer with lots of blooms on the bush? Do you have to wait a while before flushes blooms? Do the blooms last a long time on the plant? Does it make a good cut flower? What is the fragrance like? There’s not very much info on this rose. I would love to know more about if If you don’t mind sharing.

Funny you should ask.......just this afternoon I noticed it blooming away, its lovely hot pink ruffled blooms so pretty and bright! The Texas heat is making every rose suffer but its still blooming like a champ. I seem to always forget to cut blooms to bring inside so cant answer how it does as a cut flower. Not sure but dont think there are flushes - it seems to always have blooms on it and I think they do stay on a reasonable amount of time, though I havent paid much attention to that and havent sniffed it so dont know about fragrance. It has been a strong rose for me - some of them are wimps that have to be coaxed along. It really is a nice rose that should get more attention. If I didnt have such a large pot ghetto, I would get another one. Try it, think you will really like it!

He does all kinds of video chats with guests even some rose rehoming. So he is probably focusing on that.

Is that a facebook thing, Kristine? I see him on Instagram, but don't follow. As much as I love pictures of roses, it's the detail of each including its growth habit, pruning like etc. that interest me the most... and the comraderie, of course. :))
