HELP!!! Induction cooktop not working.

I've never used induction before and I'm hoping this is something easily solvable since GE's technical support is closed today. We are using induction cookware and it is centered on the eye, but it's not getting hot. The oven is working, so I'm not sure what we could be doing wrong.

If you have a cast iron skillet, try that to make sure it's not a problem with the cooktop. If the cast iron works, then it might be your cookware.

#1, are you sure the pan is induction, #2, have you tried all the eyes with different size cookware

Is there an on/off button? A child lock button?

Did the plug or breaker get tripped?

Often instruction manuals are available on line. Is the bottom of the pan large enough for the burner?

And don't forget to check the plug is securely inserted. Perhaps something moved?

Thanks everybody. I didn't think to have it checked when it was installed, so I don't know if it was working or not. We are definitely using induction cookware (I just bought it for this range) and when that didn't work, I tried my iron skillet and that didn't work either. The hot surface light is coming on but the pots won't get hot. We tried different sizes of pots on all of the eyes, but they were all within the specified recommendations. If there's a button we can't find it, and the instructions aren't very specific. The oven does work though, so I don't think it's anything electrical. I'm hoping it's something simple but I have no idea what.

Have you pressed the Control Lock button for 3 seconds? Sometimes they ship with locked controls.

Cook's Kitchen, we tried that but I think it was only for the oven?

What is the model number of your unit?

kevinande, the model is CHS950P2MS1 .

Your model is pretty straight forward with the knob controls. There is no safety lock out as with a unit controlled with a digital push button interface. It should push in click and you select the desired setting. Can you hear a fan begin to run when you turn on one of the hobs? If the oven is working chances are it is connected properly, however I would pull it out and have someone take a look at wiring connections just to be sure everything is connected properly. It also would not hurt to have someone test the circuit just to be sure you have the proper voltage on each line feeding the unit. If everything checks out, you may have just gotten a DOA (dead on arrival) unit. Other than just being DOA, low line voltage is the only condition I can think of that would cause the problems you are having. I hate this happened to you on Christmas Eve.

kevinande, the light around the knob turns on for a few seconds, and it starts to warm up, but then the light turns off. As far as I know everything is hooked up okay. I may very well have gotten a clunker :/ Luckily, I still had the hot plate I've been using but it would have been nice to have four eyes to use. Thank you for the input, I appreciate it.

Could your cooktop be in showroom or demo mode? Have you tried turning the circuit breaker to the cooktop off for a couple of minutes, then turn it back on?

repac, we did try that. Unfortunately, I think we've got a clunker.

Sounds like you've tried everything reasonable, cherylbirth. I had trouble with my induction months after it was installed in which several eyes stopped working. Turned out, the (certified) installer had not connected the neutral wire (different than the ground wire). Once that was connected, everything worked perfectly. Just trying to think of every possibility as I know how frustrating this is. Please let us know what happens!

Thanks, repac. I'm about to head up to Home Depot and see if they will take a return, even though we didn't realize it didn't work within the 24 hour window we weren't told about.

Finally got this resolved. I had to go through GE, as the 24 hour window that I was never informed about had passed. A repairman came out and found that two of the boards were bad so I requested a replacement from GE. They finally got back to me and they are going to give me a new range. I'm relieved, and hopefully the next one won't be a lemon.
