I bought an LG a couple years ago after a fair amount of research. Every brand has problem reports. I decided LG sounded the best to me at the price point I was willing to pay. Mine is full depth, FD, no ice or water in door. I’ve been happy with it so far.

When we remodeled our kitchen in 2012 we bought a CD Kenmore Elite, which was actually an LG. No problems the six years we used it until we moved in 2018. Bought LG CD fridge again (from Lowes) in spring 2018 for new house and no problems thus far.

ETA: Ours were both French Door, bottom freezer with ice/water in the door.

My MIL bought a Fisher Paykel and loves it. I will probably buy the same brand when I redo my kitchen.

We bought an LG FD with bottom freezer, but have just had about 6 months. So far, no problems. Many people buy through Costco to get the longer warranty and I believe you can get a year longer if you buy with a Costco credit card.

We also have an LG FD w/ bottom freezer, ice and water in door. Have had it about 18 months — so far so good. I remember reading that they can have issues with the ice maker — ours has been fine so far, knock on wood.

Have a 2 year old LG FD full depth with ice and water in the door. We absolutely love this fridge we did have a 2005 LG which we hated...melting lightbulbs and other issues. We didn’t expect to buy another LG, but it was the best value for the money and had better reviews than many of the others.

I have a Kitchen Aid fridge purchased in 2017. Counter-depth, French door top, drawer freezer on bottom (wire basket rather than solid plastic drawer). No in-door ice/water, but there is a spigot inside for cold filtered water. It has worked just fine for 2.5 years, but it is noisy sometimes. I read about the noise in reviews prior to purchase, but my ex was the one who wanted all new appliances. He had already picked out a KA stove and insisted they all match.

following closely as I will be buying a fridge within the next month or 2 (remodeling kitchen) and I NEED a CD fridge, prefer French Door. So far the only thing I am pretty certain of is it won't be Samsung.

My last 2 (non CD) were Kenmore and they were great. Pretty certain they were actually LG.

I just find there is almost no reliability factor with any of the brands and the CD fridges are not cheap.

I just saw on the other thread that there was a model suggested (Frigidaire). It looks really good but one of the factors we are weighing is the water dispenser. In our previous fridge we had internal water dispenser and DH loved it. The Frigidaire does not have it ( very few models do).

Just bought an LG CD with french doors. We got the one with ice and water through the door and it also has an ice bin in the freezer drawer. Haven't run out yet and we go through a lot of ice. My only complaint is that you have to open both doors to use the deli drawer. Not a big deal and will just take a bit of getting used on my part, but overall we're very pleased. No problems so far (knock on wood), but for the price you can't beat it. Got it delivered, installed, and the old one hauled away for under $1600 (no sales tax) plus a $100 rebate.

I think all refrigerators are repair-prone (at least in the sub $5k category where I shop). This last time I made sure to buy from a local appliance store that has their own staff of technicians that have their own vans, etc. The manufacturer reps are sometimes too interested in saying it isn't a problem OR slapping a bandaid fix on when it should be a new part installed. I love my Samsung washer, but after dealing with their incompetence in fixing a leaky hose (they tried to glue it rather than replace it) I am all in favor of independent service techs.

I must be lucky in this case because the fridges that I use, whether in places we rented or in the place we bought a few years ago, had fridge that cant have been more than $2000 and I never had a problem (at least not in the first 5 to 10 years). I had a fridge in a rental that needed to be replaced, but it was an old fridge. We currently have a Maytag fridge that must be 5 years now and we've never had a problem. The fridge we had in our previous condo must have been more than 5 y

It may be due to the fact we use simple fridges without a water dispenser and do not use the icemaker either, so less things to break.

We bought a Whirlpool counter depth this year. It was one of the few black stainless models without an exterior ice/water dispenser that was less than $2k. We love it.

I think the ice and water thru the door DEFINITELY adds to the repair likelihood. I had a GE cafe CD fridge without ice or water thru the door, but a couple seals went bad and the fridge started freezing everything inside. That was covered under extended warranty protection, thankfully. It seems like finding a simple fridge without all the bells and whistles is sort of like wanting manual transmission in the US ... it exists, but the choices are not as abundant.

We never had problems with ice/water thru the door, but a couple of years ago we replaced our fridge. I really don't care for the look of the ice/water on the door, so we got one with the icemaker in the freezer. It's the bottom freezer/french door and I love the streamlined look of it. Ours is also counter depth.

If you actually look at the reliability numbers for GE refrigerators, you will see Consumer Reports does NOT rate them highly at all - worse than average reliability.

We got a KA CD FD fridge when we built our home 9 years ago. We went with KA simply bc we got the 36” KA pro-style duel fuel range and KA pro-style dw. I don‘t like ice & water through the door for aesthetic and function reasons (my children were young at the time, and I didn’t want ice & water all over my wood floors, lol.) At first, I hated the fridge bc I had gone from a standard depth to CD and it took forever to figure out how to fit all of our drinks and stuff in it.

Anyway, nine years in, it has been just fine. I don’t like it as much as the range and dw, which I LOVE, but it has held up MUCH BETTER than our stupid Cabrio washer & dryer which have each been repaired twice AND each were replaced within a year of each other (3 years ago and 2 years ago, respectively.) I am expecting one or both to break down again any day now *eye roll*. Apparently I am hard on washers and dryers? Who knew?

Well, we ended up with a KA FD CD from Lowe’s. It was in stock, on sale, and could be delivered Sunday. With the sale price and DH’s military discount we saved a tidy bundle. I also liked one of the LGs but the LGs really protrude more into the room. According to the sales guy, any CD can be 30” or less, including handles. Who knew?

Anyway, this one has the water dispenser inside and ice maker in the bottom freezer, which will be an adjustment but as long I have handy cool water, I am good to go. I like the other inside features too.

Several of the ones, like the one Chi posted for example, are beautiful, but too big for our space. Maybe in our next home when we downsize to a smaller lot size I can plan for something larger. Thank you all for weighing in with your recommendations and experiences. Let’s hope our refrigerators live a long life!

In our previous FD (which was not CD) it had the internal water dispenser and DH loved it and misses having it. Will take another look at the Kitchenaid. I am sure you will be delighted!

Last onoe we bought was about 10-11 years ago -- an LG bottom drawer freezer for our utility room. It has been great. Holds baking sheets that are too large for my main fridge (built-in) and gave us extra ice during the years the boys were both in marching band. That's less important now, but still nice at times. I've been very happy with it and it has never given us a second thought,.

Outside, I'm glad you were able to get a good deal on your new fridge. Let us know how you like it.

I have an 8-yr-old KA side-by-side, not counter depth. My bottom produce bin is too cold, like frosty celery. I've stopped using it, but wonder if it's fixable or symptomatic of a larger issue with my fridge.

@Bunny - yes this issue can be fixed in an unbelievably easy way (sorry to go OT, but wanted to help Bunny). I had this issue in a KA fridge in a previous home; other than that, the KA was great. I called an appliance repair guy, and this is what he showed me. Here is what you do: If you pull out the vegetable drawer completely, you will see a small hole on the left side that passes air from the freezer to the fridge. Put a piece of electrical tape over the hole to cover it about 1/2 to 3/4, but not entirely. That does the trick. We lived with it that way for another 8 years, and never had a problem.

M Miller, thank you! I pulled the drawer out and didn't see any hole on the left side. There is definitely a long strip across the back through which air passes. While on my hands and knees, I came face to face with this setting on the left that I had either overlooked or misunderstood. The current setting is for meat (I don't ever put meat in this bin) and I think it should be for vegetables. I'll change it and see what happens. Thank you again.

No problem with the OT stuff. I actually love it when other problems surface and get solved as a result of discussions here.

I had frozen celery and lettuce in one of my veggie bins a couple of times in my Jenn Air. It has a similar adjustment button for each drawer and I just adjusted it. Maybe it had inadvertently been moved or something, I don’t know, anyway, problem was solved.

About eight months ago I purchased a Samsung french door, multi functional drawer underneath (can be used as a freezer or refrigerator, has dividers--use for all dairy products and a few sparkling waters), and the bottom pull out freezer, with another pull out section inside that drawer on the top part that houses ice bins with scoops (for purchased ice) and ice cream.

It has the water in the door as well as a very handy pitcher that fills with water automatically--great for pulling out and using filtered water for coffee and tea.

This model has no handles at all, so is clean looking and nothing to intrude on the traffic path in the kitchen. There have been no problems; I purchased an extended warranty, however, which is something I never did before but these days most everything is not made to last.

I can't believe I lived with that side by side for so long; never had one before and never again.

Consumer Reports loves LG but I have replaced compressor twice -First one was during Covid and there were no new appliances ! LG told me 3 months before they could fix. It was 5 yrs old.Called a repair guy he told me LG compressors had a plastic washer that burns up - 1350 to replace -Needed the fridge so I replaced. Went out again -that appliance repair person out of business. Called another got another compressor through LG was going to be another 750 to repair. When the repairman came he saw that the old compressor had been overcharged And repairman overcharged me ! overcharging caused condensation rusting out bottom of fridge -I could have had them replace but at this point I would have pd for a new fridge ! Even then the repairman said the water issue might be a leak somewhere else and the charge would be a minimum of 350 w/o doing compressor. Def not worth trying !

However the repairman took the new compressor which means he will pass on to someone else for 750 install and get another free from LG ! It continues !

LG is currently looking at a major litigation from my understanding !

I love Consumer Reports but LG fridges are an issue !

BTW mine was French Door in door -never hooked up icemaker as they are always a problem !

They say 5 yrs for appliances now -Wow too bad our manufacturing now is bad !

In the process of searching for one now. Ours with exterior water dispenser flooded the entire kitchen when the dispenser stuck for DH and he was here alone. Shutoff valve in basement. Those without exterior door dispensers are in the minority. Whatever we buy, there will be no water line connected to it for sure!

I've just begun researching refrigerators for a new build; we won't need one until mid-2026. We have a bottom freezer Whirlpool purchased in 1998 that is still working well! I'm afraid to buy the new ones because the longevity is so terrible but we'll have no choice. Consumer Reports actually says although they rate LG French doors as a recommended buy, their compressors break in about 5 years. CR said the french door models don't perform well overall, but constitute over 50% of all refrigerator sales, and the showroom floors are definitely dominated by them. So I began looking for bottom freezer models again. We don't need/like the outside water/ice dispenser so that doesn't bother us. But there's such a tiny selection online. I looked at Whirlpool, GE, and Maytag. Maytag has a 10-year warranty on their compressor. But I could not find any recent reviews on them (or Whirlpool or GE) that weren't part of a "paid promotion." So that means I actually can't trust any of those reviews, although some were surprisingly critical. The Subzeros we saw are beautiful but I almost choked when I saw the $13K price tag!
