Paint your cabinets first, adjust any kitchen lighting that is needed, and then bring home samples...don't buy anything until the rest is done so you can get the tones correct.

Glad to hear the brown is out for walls I do agree to wait for the backsplash but I would remove the old one now and prepare that drywall while you are prepping for paint.What color are you painting the walls? Is it the really light cream from the island? That is actually the color of backsplash I would do in a nice glass subway tile in a stacked pattern with matching grout

For me it would be cream yes, glass no, for your very traditional space. I’d also stay away from squares as your floor has that shape covered. You’re using your stone as a guide for the paint, and that’s exactly the right approach for the tile as well.

I'd use a subway tile in a warm creamy white color that blends with your counters and flooring.

I think a creamy white subway tile would be lovely.

I like the idea of using a lighter subway tile to brighten the area. But, I'd also like to suggest a secondary tile for some contrast/interest. I've got a large area that I'll be working on, but you could easily handle inserting a complementary tile as well.

Disregard the 45º angle of the xeroxed copy that I was using. But, it will give you an idea for using a couple of different tiles. Hope it helps. Your area might be too tight. While you are just thinking it over, think about Tumbled Travertine. That might go well with your counter top. Insert a think black edge for extra detail. You can always insert it one tile above the countertop. Glad I posted my thoughts so I can see what you ended up doing in the end. Enjoy the journey.
