Try sanding a bit in an inconspicuous spot, Stains may go too deep to take out.

Are you sanding the furniture back to raw? if so feastwaston do lots of staining. you can get them in the paint section of bunnings. Just paint and wipe off is the key and do a small section at the time. Don't do it in a hot place just make sure you do bit by bit and it will come out like a pro did it! I've read that ordinary household bleach might do the trick. I'm going to try it on an inconspicuous part and see how it goes. Sanding isn't really an option because it has hand carved pictures all over it and sanding will take out the finer detail in the pictures.
