I would remove the granite framing the firebox, the wood trim framing that granite, and the granite hearth. Then, I'd choose tile, quartz, or granite to fill in the entire space around the firebox (covering over the yellow painted area). The new hearth material should extend from the white wood column to column (right now it's an inch or so short on each side).

Sometimes that gold metal is just attached with magnets. Try pulling it off.

The only thing I see objectionable is the gold trim/strip. Is it a painted surface?

Thanks everyone!! Well I love the molding and window. I really just got sick of that yellow that I painted 7 yrs ago in the summertime when I craved a bright color to compliment all of the windows that surround this fireplace....funny bow seasons can impact paint colors. Now the yellow looks outdated so I was thinking of doing a gray..but before I did that I wasn’t sure if I should do something else. My next door neighbor did a faux white stone look that looks gorgeous so that’s why I was contemplating. Maybe just the paint color and painting the brass trim will do the trick! Thanks!!!

Update: I pulled off the magnetic trim-who knew!!! Having trouble getting one magnet off. Now just have to decide if I should paint or do something like the stone tile above? Open to suggestions! Thx!

Where would you put the stone tile—in the part that’s painted yellow only? That would look weird. I mean, the way it is now is weird so I guess it won’t be any weirder.

I think the stacked stone doesn't match the style of your house. I'd do large pieces if you want to stone the front.

Sammy aren’t you a nice person. I did not build this house but I don’t know what is so weird about the fireplace. Looks like a typical fireplace to me.

I think the fireplace is pretty too. Have you considered a simple row of ceramic tile over that yellow bit?
