Do you use the table? if not I would totally move it in place of a portable island, more workspace is always good. Across from the sink would be great then you can relocate a period light fixture there. Seems the table is kinda just in the way...

As to lighting, yes you want the light to be in front of the person standing so basically just on the front of the counters so you don't make your own shadow. Seek some advice from a KD or Designer not the contractor lol.

Thanks RL Relocation! You know, the table does make it hard to go in and out the door onto the deck. Sometimes my husband will sit there to eat lunch, but since the dining room is right off the kitchen and the family room right off that, we use the dining room table most of the time. What we use the table for primarily is to put appetizers and drinks on when we have people over, so a portable island does make more sense!

You know, we've lived in this house for 25 years and the only change we've made is to replace appliances when they've gone out! The cabinets are probably 50 years old. We probably should start from scratch, but it's still functional! Thanks again.

Nice kitchen. I would consider a brighter white to blend more with the appliances.

I like the idea of a moveable island if you don't really use the table and chairs. I would store it and see if it is missed. Sometimes we don't know just how much something is used until it is no longer available..

Thanks, eld6161! Good points. I do think I'm going to try and find a white that will work with the appliances. Storing the table is a good idea as well. I don't think I'd miss the function of the table as much as the, I don't know, personality? Still, being able to get out that door easily would be a plus.
