Can you show the whole kitchen?

Right now you have lots of space to the right of the sink and very little between the sink and range, which is where you need the most for prepping. Can you reconfigure things so the dishwasher is to the right, the sink is under the large window, and the drawer cabinets are between the sink and range?

I'm thinking a typical dishwasher is 24" wide. Your sink base looks to be the same width. That's a rather narrow sink base. I would rather see you widen that cabinet (and sink).

While all of those cabinets to the right will give you great storage, they don’t give you the needed work space counter space. Inagree with moving the sink down to the large window. It will make the kitchen work so much better, with work space counter space where it is needed the most! And you can get a larger sink, which also will be very helpful. Then one of the cabinets between sunk and range can be a trash, right where you need it, in the prep zone.

I like the idea of moving the sink under the other window but right now we have a vent on the floor under that window. Both the ductwork and plumbing would have to be moved.

Can you center a wider sink on the space between the windows, and still fit the DW on the right? That will give you a wider prep area. I changed the uppers on the range wall to die into the back wall, to give you more head space in the prep area.

I'm curious about why the range is not on the other side of the room, where you have space to have counter on both sides. Is there an eating area planned for that space?

mamagoose_gw zn6OH - I like your idea about moving the sink between the windows. The range is not on the other side of the room because of where the gas hook up is.

A heating vent is easy to vent out the toe kick so don’t let that decide the design. Same with gas lines and I really do not like that stove right beside a door way so move that no matter what. IMO you have a huge bare wall that could have easily been designed to have a U shaped very functional kitchen.

How does the kitchen relate to the rest of the house? Are the window walls the only external walls?

For moving vents and gas, are you on a slab or is there a crawl space or basement below? Or is this an apartment?

The window wall is the only external wall in the kitchen. As for the vent and gas we have a finished basement below the kitchen.

In that case I would suggest moving the range to the middle of the short wall, and venting sideways out the exterior wall. The sink could stay more or less where it is. You would then have an L shaped kitchen; the fridge could stay where it is in the current plan.

Yes, move the narrow cabinet to the wall and shift the two drawer units to the left. They will be more attractive under the window and the narrow cabinet would be a great cabinet for storing baking trays, cookie sheets and extra cutting boards.

Going by your floor plan, not the virtual drawing, if you move the narrow cabinet to the right , the drawers will be centered on the window which will look much better. Are the windows installed? I am curious as to why they are different heights, you have enough back-splash to have the window over the sink the same height as the windows on the right of your elevation. I am a concerned that you do not have enough counter space to the left of your sink for comfort and function. A person will not be able to use the stove comfortably or open the door to the stove if someone is working at the sink. It will be a very cramped space with the stove and sink so close to each other in the corner l. If the windows are not installed, and this is a preliminary drawing, move the dishwasher to the left of the sink and move the window to the right to be over the sink. Another solution is to move the sink or relocate the stove to the area below the larger window.

As is... you have a problematic floor-plan.

Patching drywall is cheap. Don’t let that deter you from getting a much better floor plan.
