Peren.all, Fire and Ice is lovely. I wonder if your Frances Williams is in full sun? I heard it burns easiy so I planted mine in only part sun. Love both of your frosteds. I want to start to collect the mouse ears series.

Beth, you have so many Fs!! I have Fragrant Blue but it seems prone to slug damage. Your Frances Williams is a showstopper!

Everyone’s Fire Island looks so much better than mine. I had to move it due to too much sun. Then it was attacked by slugs. I hope it comes up nicely this year.

Thank you djacobs! My Frances Williams is not in full sun, it is in mostly shade. It seems easier to keep it from getting spring desiccation burn in zone 5 or less. I have 2 and placed them where the eastern sun does not reach them - giving the leaves a chance to dry off before the sun hits them. It works very well for me.

I love growing hostas and everything that comes with it (I know, I know, me too)... but I am officially done in 2020. Done? Done!!! Done what??? Is Paula done doing the yearly alphabet or is she done with hosta? Whatever does Paula mean? Can't be! This is taking up too much of my time. I know Paula, but . . . I’m struggling to keep up with the everyday chores of cooking, cleaning and maintaining my home, (me too!) so something has to give. (Well, I guess so, but . . . ) I have decided to get rid of all my supplies. Supplies? What supplies do you mean?

You may have noticed that I got a lot of new Frisian last summer. I'm really looking forward to spring :-)

djacobz, Francis Williams is planted at the base of the north side of the house.

With a hill rising quickly behind the house it only gets a little early morning sun.

For the first few years the burn didn't appear but in subsequent years it has.

I'm of the opinion that it is more than just light involved in causing it.

Karin, I shall watch with interest as those Frisians mature and may come begging.

Karin, the extent Of your collection always blows my mind! I was unaware of the Frisian line. There are so many I like, the Frisian in it’s gold state is beautiful. I also love the F. Yellow Waves and Flemish Sky. Last summer you thought one of my NOID looked like Fire Opal. Here are two pictures, what do you think? The plant looks more washed out than yours, but mine is in full sun.

Frozen Margarita, this Hosta doesn’t care about anything, it just grows fast and big.

kathy I didn't know that First Blush has red scapes! Wow, yours is a good size already and looking great. How long have you had it?

I am looking forward to seeing the scapes this summer. Also, I didn't know it was an early riser. (Should it be added to Don Rawson's Early Emerging Hostas list?) I had better make sure it is well protected this winter and spring as it is a new one for me.

For the first time since I got the "great root rot", I bought some hosta. I bought three in the spring. I bought Guacamole, Francee and Night before Christmas. They are tough varieties that have done well for me in the past, so I figured they were a good place to start.

I bought two from Chris at the end of the season when he was closing, too. One was just a wild guess - Fluted Fountain. The other should do well; its Regal Splendor, which is a recommended variety. Also, Krossa Regal survived the rot, so I'm hoping these do well. I'll never have 100 pots again, but it's nice have a few.

All that to say, jump in there. The water is fine.
