remodeling backyard in southern california and putting in a linear fireplace type thing as part of retaining wall. contractor says we have the option of putting in an insert into the fireplace which will push out heat, otherwise the fire will just be for ambience. the insert costs $3,500. i’m picturing it still not giving off much heat and wishing we hadn’t spent the money on it and just use it for ambience. but i don’t wanna regret not springing for it if it will make the area more cozy in the cold months. anyone have experience with these things? thanks!!
