Does brushed nickel leave water spots after cleaned?

I’m trying to decide on shower finishes. my friend has possibly satin? I’m not sure what finish she has but it is discolored even after cleaning. Does brushed nickel leave spots After cleaning?

We have both chrome and brushed nickel in different parts of the house. Chrome usually shows some water spots, whereas nickel doesn't. But that's because we have exceptionally soft water. If you have harder water then things might be different and you'll see some amount of spotting no matter what.

Barkeepers friend or other acid cleaning products can tarnish nickel. Many bath cleaning products are acid based and shouldn’t be used with nickel or natural stone, or anything really. PH balanced cleaners, a microfiber cloth, and physical effort only should be used.

Water spots are a result of minerals in your water. Get the water treated, and that shouldn’t be an issue for any finish choice.

Barkeeper's Friend is a funny product. It works miracles for removing stains, even stubborn stains from most many materials. It's great for cleaning stainless steel, if you ever managed to damage the passivation layer that makes stainless resistant to rusting. But ironically, it can also do the exact opposite. Let Barkeeper's Friend sit on your stainless steel surface for an extended amount of time, and you will certainly end up with a big ugly stain that takes a lot of elbow grease to remove.

In other words, use this product sparingly and only when needed. Then wipe off completely when it has done its job.

And yes, @User is perfectly correct in saying that for day-to-day cleaning, a mild cleaner and a soft cloth is really all that you should need. And if you have really hard water, then investing into some sort of water treatment is going to pay off over time. I am not a huge fan of reverse osmosis, but there are plenty of other options that work well.

Thanks, this is good to know. We recently installed a Delta brushed nickel shower system (Lahara) in the master bath. Our water is "moderately hard" and so far, I've only used Method brand and Dawn dish liquid (not together).

I sometimes use some BKF and LemiShine (citric acid) for the minerals and soap scum on the tiles. I will be sure to use the BKF and LemiShine on the tile only, now that I know better, and keep it away from the nickel.
