You will need to speak to whoever is selling you the FP IMO this is avery contemporary look and without seeing your space and the FP I don’t know about some kind of wood media. I usually just use electric linears for this application

In our living room, we went with gas and bought the Heatilator Crave Linear model. It is a direct vent. It will be finished out with black glass & a natural log set, clean face trim. That being said, we will not be putting a TV over ours simply because we do not keep a TV in our main living room. There will be a very large screen in the upstairs "hangout room" (I have a pre-teen & teenager). Now, we also have one in our bedroom and it WILL be above another linear fireplace but it will be electric. I went with the PuraFlame Alice in a 50 inch that came with a log set & crystal. I snagged it on Amazon recently for $399.99. Great price & we tested it out, really like it (still in the building process currently). It's a great way for me to add a useful feature wall in our bedroom while being mindful of the budget.

We are Seniors and are not going with a study. This is our "age in place" home. The Great room will be living room, den everything, with an adjacent outdoor patio facing the Lake. TV will only be in this room and with open floorplan the only place is on fireplace. I am transitional to contemporary in style so it may just end up with crystal & River rock. If I have to add a mantle so be it... Will ask the Fireplace rep. I visited Mendota showroom today and blower fan was quiet. I visit Heat & Glo tomorrow so that should help make a decision. @ktarmstrong1 I am in the same position as you so I appreciated reading your posts! We, too, are seniors and are building and have the same set up--great room is to be used for everything, adjacent outdoor living overlooks our lake, with a transitional to modern taste. We may be placing our TV above the fp as well and if I lived alone I probably wouldn't, but it's my husband's home as well so I want to honor his desires as he honors some of mine. Please get back to this thread and update your decisions. My contractor is needing an answer too.

Please please dont chose the heat & Glo. We had the 60 inch install bout 2 years ago and seriously never use it because the fan is too loud and the manufacturer offers no help. Wish someone Would have warmed us.

We have a similar fireplace and the fan is a must for me. Although its not quiet, it's fine for us. I choose the 2nd or 3 level of fan most of the time and the tv has no problem with sound above it. I have a fan in ours because I want to have heat blowing out and around our Living room and in my mind, it cools it down, after I turn the fire off. I'll keep the fireplace light on to remind me to turn the fan off. It's a bit loud right when it starts but has a low hum after that. Its called the Slayton Kozy heat.

@alladd--SO I visited showrooms for each unit today. I will likely go with the Primo Heat & Glo. I listened to the fan and it was not that loud IMO. They did say they had worked on the noise issue with the fan. I like that it has the double glass and is cool to the touch. I feel better about the TV being over it. My husband also wants the TV on the Fireplace and since most everything else I have chosen, I feel he needs a few choices:-) I'll post a picture when available but we are just putting roof on next week--so will be a while...

We are considering the Empire 60" ventless Comfort Systems. We were told there is no fan/blower on that particular one. My husband said tonight that he really wants the TV above so like you, I feel he needs a few choices. We are almost ready for sheet rock. Yes, let's stay in touch!

We are also building age in place home with a great room with fireplace and TV on same wall. We are looking at the Napoleon Ascent Linear 36 series direct vent. Any comments on noise on this model? This is the look we are going for.

@CEM TOSA That is not a linear fireplace. It is beautiful though! If room allows, that is always the best way to have a TV in a living room space. It allows for better viewing.

@Junk*Salvation we haven't nailed down the style yet but this is how the wall will be designed. Also looking at Fireplace Xtrodinair brand. Our dealer sells Napoleon, Fireplace Xtrodinair and Jotul and we have an exchange they are graciously letting us so we will pick from these brands!

@CEM TOSA The fireplace in the photo isn't linear but Napoleon Ascent Linear 36 is, well, linear as the name says. I'm using the same Napoleon Ascent model as replacement for original old ugly gas fireplace.

I have a question about these fireplace sizes... When they are advertised as a 48" linear for example, is that the finished size that you can actually see/measure or something else? I'm confused about that. Thank you!

I think it is the finished size but I also had that as a question as well.

aladdintn, that's the approx size of the viewing area. We are installing a 48" Boulevard (Empire) direct vent and the framing area needed is much larger! Both width and height.

I've seen both Boulevard and Napoleon in a showroom...and IMO the Boulevard flame is nicer and has nice movement due to the "S" shaped gas line.

@lucky998877 that is exactly the one we ordered on Wednesday. We went with the 48" instead of the 60 as we had first considered.

@ktarmstrong1 did you make a final decision?
