I Need Some Avocado Advice

Central NJ.
Zone 6B/7A.

A little back story...
My boyfriend saw something about starting avocado trees with skewers through the pit and hanging it on a cup of water, yadda yadda (u guys know what I’m talking about). Anyway he decided to give it a try and 2 years later it was looking like an actual plant with several leaves and all!

This summer Miss Avocado plant went outside for summer vacay and a deer came up to the patio and gobbled the whole top off. Stem and Every single leaf. Damnit I hate Deer.

Fast Forward to Today....

After spending the rest of the summer save and comfy in my plant infirmary and the past several months in my kitchen she is finally getting her groove back!!

Here’s the question...

Should I leave it like this? Or wait until spring and then cut the leafy side shoot off so it can be rooted and replanted as one straight , tall plant?

Thanks in advance!!

Leave the plant as is
Cut off the good stem and root it
