Did some winter pruning of a cultivar local to NC from Camellia Forest. Name forgotten...something like 'Ye Nan'. Noticed the stems had a beet red color develop when cut. (not oozing as in "gummosis" - this is a young plant)

I never saw this phenomena on my 'Peggy Clarke'.

Anyone else seen something like it?
