AA186-7 : Name this rose!

Several us have been discussing Week’s impressive new giant flowered HT, code name AA186-7.

What would YOU name this rose? Perhaps if we get some good names, we’ll forward them to Mr Bedard and company.

Ha! Moses I'd buy a rose called "chicken fat." And every time someone on a rose forum brought up unusual or funny rose names it would be mentioned. Schmaltz is another word for chicken fat, and might make a better rose name because of its other connotations.

Sorry Moses, no Chicken Fat rose is going into my yard! I’d continue to call it AA186-7 if that were the only other name.

Lol. I have enough Fat chickens in my yard.

3 Fat Roosters who think they are puppies.

    How about "Butter Me Up"?

I love the picture of the chickens and roosters! And funny they think are puppies cool! I don"t remember names of roses unless I"ve stamped it in my memory, whatever! But the rose is gorgeous!

mjk, They really do think they are puppies lol. They follow everyone around begging for treats and if you sit down on a bench or swing they fight over who gets to sit on your lap and get snuggled first.

Does anyone know how tall this rose will get?

Lemon Delicious - used to be a popular Australian dessert.

Very good, Trish. How about Lemon Velvet? I was thinking Lemon Silk a few days, but felt too cruddy to post--then a bunch of people recommended it. A popular dessert here is Lemon Lush, but somehow that loses steam on the "lush"--ha. Chicken Fat is awful. Here's another loser: Lemon Curd. Again, "curd" fails the mental image test. But this rose is beautiful, though in our sun, I'm afraid it would fade out too much. For you Southerners, how about Banana Pudding? I love the stuff, but "banana" doesn't conjure the luscious image that "lemon" does. Or Lemon Souffle, which sounds like a big, voluminous rose (collapsing in the hot sun like an aging souffle--not good). Dave, I agree that "Like No Other" is a horrid name which does not convey a lovely image: a mess of a rose like no other. Does anyone have photos of this rose? I'm dying of curiosity, so maybe its name is a good one, after all. Diane

Will this rose be a hit ?
    Me : ITS A POSSIBILITY

Chicken Fat made me grimace/chuckle, because after all these are the same people who brought us "Ketchup & Mustard." They'll probably name this one "Mayonnaise."

The bloom on that rose looks to me just like the skirt of a Vera Wang ballgown, which is why I suggested names that play on that theme. "Silk Ballgown" is what it literally looks like to me. "Queen of the Ball" could be good if those blooms are as humongous as they appear.

I like the lemon references for color, but a lot will depend on the fragrance of the rose.

Dave and Diane, "Like No Other" sounds to me like they couldn't come up with a name. It's terrible.

At least it's not as bad as the would-be sexy names. Why on earth do they give roses names like that? They're not selling roses that someone is going to buy for Valentine's Day; they're selling plants that a gardener will put in their garden. Who wants to give a family member or friend a tour of their garden with names that sound like a Harlequin Romance? "So, Dad, that peachy rose over there is called My Heaving Bosom, and here this new floribunda is Give Me Your Hot Wet Kisses."

Oh, Suzanne, I hope the day will never come that the name of Mayonnaise or

Chicken Fat (sorry Moses) will ever be assigned to a rose. We don’t need a culinary line of roses (if they could even be called that with those names)! You might as well name the rose Yellow Snow and kill any chance of selling one :)

    omg lol@ Yellow Snow!

Shame, sultry and Dave. Obviously, you haven't been in my back yard when the deer have had a p!@#ing contest on the snow. Diane

going with the dessert theme I thought of lemon chiffon although there was a lemon chiffon released in the 50’s and currently two different florist roses named lemon chiffon so maybe it could just be shortened to chiffon . there is also old song titles like sailing on a sunbeam, here comes the sun, wait till the sun shines.

Yellowstone would be my pick [yes, I am a huge fan of the series]. I raise horses - waiting for a palomino colt that I plan to keep and will name him that.

@bent look what nick shared that he recieve ... look how healthy I’m in love already

Alameda, Yellowstone IS a great name. But your post also makes me think that "Palomino" would be a great name for this rose.

    Hey Kenneth,

Yes, I saw them on the other thread, exciting indeed! Could you please ask your HOA if they can remove that plant from Nick’s yard and put it in mine. Gracias! :o)

Ben I been going to Wally World weekly like true addict hunting down body bags . Why do I love them so much ?? Uggh !!

Kenneth, I found 4 Lavender Crush at Wally last week.......I think they bring in new roses periodically - keep checking! I love them too........but found they do better potted up and babied due to the wax on the canes and the chopped roots. But they are fun to grow! Good luck! I found Sally Holmes at Tractor Supply - this is a great rose to put on a fenceline, blooms alot. Checking at Home Depot - got a Comte de Chambourd last year, planted it in the ground, took good care of it but it died. This year, they are all going in pots til fall.

My Wally had Margaret Merrill, Sundowner, and Della Reese. That’s quite sophisticated for Wally!

Wow Ben! I have Della coming from Regan this week! Wonder how Wally got that one? What all have you ordered?

Hi Judith, I was tempted to get those 3 at Wally (only $6.97 each). but somehow I resisted. I hope you’ll go visit Chamblees when you pick up your new Austins, and tell us about the new nursery.

    I’m getting the following:

    hortico

    -Chandos Beauty

    regan

    -Calfornia Dreamin

    -Marc Chagall

    -Julie Andrews

    -Beautiful Day

    palantine

    -Dee-Lish

    -Augusta Louise

    -Claire Rose

    edmunds

    -Perfume Factory

    -Fun in the Sun

    -Charlene Princesse De Monaco

    -Scentuous

    J&P

    -AA186-7

    -Like No Other

You have some pretty ones coming Ben! I am getting several of the ones you have. I am getting California Dreamin again - had it years ago and the colors are gorgeous - you will love it! I know I ordered too many.......just couldnt help it, so many new ones this year! I had alot of other responsibilities going on the last couple years - and things are slowly getting back to whatever I call normal here. I plan to spend lots of time in my garden and am getting my pot ghetto organized - but may have to expend it when all these roses arrive ha ha!

I’m glad to hear Cal Dreamin’ was good for you, Judith! I’ve seen it dreamy and fragrant in California, but had some concerns it didn’t like TX. I’d also like to make my pot ghetto more organized, it’s beautiful to me, but sort of looks like the work of a crazy obsessed person to anyone else.

Yes, I changed an order from Edmunds this year. The order lady seemed to have to do more computer backflips than Simone Biles, but she did it!

Omg Ben stop !!! I laughed so hard !!! No backflips why are you so funny lol

Im buying 3 more standards ... firefighter ... life of the party .... pretty lady rose . Thoughts ?

She gave me an attitude lol wrote down my cc number and said someone else has to do it .. hmmm thats a Major violation of my PCI now I’m anxious this is a call center Who knows where my info is at . She said she had to send it to someone else .

Kenneth, I can't speak to Edmunds' PL standards, but I saw some at a local nursery and nearly bought two. They easily had 2 if not 3x as many canes coming out of the crown than all the other standards being sold. I almost took a picture, but I didn't want that on my phone to obsess and rationalize buying one before knowing how it grows in my garden. I bought a PL bush hoping it looks as good as CoriAnn's before I splurge on a standard. From what I've read on numerous other threads about PL, she seems to me like a good candidate for a standard based on her compact growth.

And all of THAT is why you should have just added a few more roses to your cart to get free shipping and skipped the phone part of using your phone. :P

Nick nooo they I wouldn’t get the standards at 44.50 if you buy 4 they discount them one was in a different cart and 3 in another combine them .

For some reason this rose made me think "Melanie Hamilton", Scarlett O'Hara's sister-in-law in Gone With The Wind.

    Nose,

Agree , I could also see the rose for Olivia De Havilland who played Melanie.

In keeping with the Palomino theme from earlier...

    Golden Cloud

    Trigger

    Trigger Jr

or Roy Rogers just for fun

I just wanna call it MINE!

I wonder it could hold its own in our FL climate?

alameda/zone 8/East Texas If you want to get a palomino colt, breed a sorrel to an albino and you will get one.... everytime. I use to argue that it was uncertain, but I was told that I was wrong and it is in the genetics.

I lost my most beautiful cremello mare last year - she had a palomino colt which I sold, I now regret......never thinking I would lose her. Perlino gives mostly buckskin - cremello gives palomino. Palomino can be had from other matings - I have my cremello mare's palomino daughter bred, due in April, to a palomino with overo bloodlines - hoping for a palomino colt.....Sorrel/chestnut gives 50% chance each of sorrel/chestnut or palomino. Hopefully can combine both the genetics I love plus the color genetics and get a "keeper" baby.........I have always had palomino horses.....maybe that's why I love apricot roses!

Alameda me too about the dilute horses and apricot roses! Sorry to hear about your mare, seems like it is always the really good horses that we lose too soon. Hope you get your palomino colt!

Thank you Joey! I have been raising horses since I was 10 [will be 72 in April]. Had Arabians for nearly 40 years, now enjoy Miniature Horses. I breed for Arabian type, found 4 bloodlines I love, and utilize those. I have 2 foals from my beautiful Arabian type cremello mare who died - a black colt and this bred palomino mare [and a black filly from her]. Like waiting to see the beautiful blooms from roses every year - waiting for these precious foals to be born is so exciting!
