What is your favorite Fruit Tree and Non Fruiting Tree ?

I will start with my favorite fruit tree which is the Mandarin Orange Tree. I have several varieties but they are my favorite fruit to eat and the healthiest ( citrus family ). Not only do they taste great but look good as well. They are easy to care for , produce fruit easily where I live , are evergreen, fragrant in spring and when the fruit ripens in color the look outstanding. Also I can grow them successfully in containers. This was not an easy decision because I really love avocados but they are a little more difficult to grow in containers.

Non Fruiting- hands down for me it is the Japanese Maple Tree's. I have over 50 varieties in my collection and they are just so stunning to the eye especially as the change colors throughout the season. And some varieties even look good in the winter with their coral, reed or yellow bark.

My favourite fruit tree is Italian Prune. The fruit is absolutely delicious raw when fully ripe and already falling from the tree. Full of flavour and wonderfully aromatic. It is also great in pies, I add it to soups, and cook it together with my vegetables. It can be frozen or dried. It is great for low-sugar preserves. May be I would like another kind of tree more if living in different climate, I don't know, but this one is perfect for my hardiness zone.

I love the look of apricot trees. And the way the leaves change color. I also love mock orange and silver leaf maples.

Without a doubt the Santa Rosa plum is my favorite fruit tree.

I am too undecided on ornamental trees.

Since I can't grow citrus here (or not easily), I'd say my favorite fruiting trees are apples. Never met an apple I didn't like but Gravensteins are my favorite and have such a tiny commercial market that a home orchard is about the only way to get them reliably.

Like Nick, I really favor Japanese maples and also have a large collection but my favorite ornamental is Stewartia pseudocamellia, which offers a full 4 seasons of interest. I like them so much I planted a grove of 3 of them in my old garden!!

My favorite fruiting tree is Meyer lemon, mainly because I use more lemons than any other fruit. It is difficult to pick just one. The fig trees from Texas that I had in Venice produced the sweetest fruit of any fruit tree that I've had, but the season is not that long, and it got hot in the kitchen when I made fig preserves, which I mostly gave away. I also love my blood orange tree and cherimoya.

Favorite non-fruiting tree is Ceiba speciosa (Silk floss tree), which makes beautiful pink flowers in the fall and has a very interesting spiked trunk.

I love gingkoes for their fall color although their general shapes are sometimes wonky. Also any good spring/summer bloomers like crepe myrtle (messy, don’t put on your patio).

Like windberry I'm always impressed every spring w/the redbuds blossoming -- even on sterile rock slopes. The flowers are edible too -- sprinkle them on a salad:

In Modesto zone 9: For fruiting trees, I love figs (have several varieties pruned to one-dimensional fanlike espaliers to save space) and also love Gold Nugget mandarin, Moro blood orange and Donut peach. For ornamental trees, I love Florida dogwood trees for their spring blooms and summer and fall foliage.

It would have to be lemon since I love baking/cooking with them, and just looking at them. Our tree provides lemons year round, and they're always on display in my kitchen, leaves included. For non-fruiting, we're big Japanese Maple fans and have several varieties in our yard.
