help finishing bedroom and curtain advice

HI! First question is... do these curtains work here? Too dark or ok? They are navy blue. I had cream before with grommets and they ruined the bar and made noise. hated that. they were also not black out and my husband wanted more color in the room. I thought I would get navy king pillowcases instead of the matching shams and a navy throw for the end of the bed.

Then thoughts on finishing the bedroom. I know we need artwork. I though of moving the chair to another room (it was my mom's and I'm not ready to part with it but I have stubbed my toes on it more times than I can count!) and get an end of the bed bench instead. would that work? if yes, what style and color would you suggest? i really appreciate any advice you can give me. I am learning so much on Houzz.

I would find a rug in a color that matches your lamps (aqua?). A subtle tone-on-tone aqua would be perfect, I think. Ivory would look nice, too.

If you wanted a bit of a pattern, or multiple colors, then maybe aqua with some ivory, beige, or navy accents. (Assuming you have beige on your comforter; looks beige on my screen, but it could be gray or taupe, maybe?)

how about the curtains? color ok?

I think the color looks good... Looks like the rod should extend farther away from the window/door, though. All of the fabric, when opened, should rest against the wall, not blocking the window at all. This helps the window look bigger. :-)

Don't hide the sleigh bed's footboard with a bench. I would ground the bed on a rug. Can the bookcase go in another room?

yes, the detail on the footboard is very nice. good point! and i do agree on the rug. what color? how about the curtains? color ok? and unfortunately the bookcase cannot go in another room. I hope to be able to find a new place for the books soon. I did good recently to downsize to that size. used to have a much larger one!

awesome reminder about the curtain rod; thank you! We need to buy a new one since the grommets ruined the current one so we will get one that can go wider.

and great advice on the rug. it is a beige in the duvet.

The darker drapes are fine. The chair really seems to be in the way there. Can you slide the bookcase down further to use the chair at the end of the bookcase, angled toward the bed? If not, I would try to find another space for it. You don't have room for a bench, unless you move the bookcase. If you want to add pattern, you could use a runner at the end of the bed, but I don't think a rug is necessary at all. The main thing your room needs is a large colorful piece of art on the wall with the drapes, and a large framed mirror on the other wall to reflect the light and view from outdoors.

A bit of curtain should come into the window or else it'll look like fabric hanging on the wall rather than curtains framing a window.

Also, they need to be shortened just a bit so they just kiss the floor. But if you want them to puddle, then spread the bottom out just a bit so they have that elegant look rather than the too long pants look.

calidesign - yes, i agree i do need to find another place for the chair. my toes will thank me. can't move the bookcase down at all. will have to look for another room to put it in or might have to part with it. ty for your advice on what to put on the walls.
