They could be giant silk moths (which aren't silkworm moths) but not actual silkworm moths which don't have those spots. Plenty of moths do though. I think the moths are a nice touch! It's a neat piece.

FWIW, clothes moths will eat cotton & rayon too. They can even eat natural and synthetic fiber blends.

Without seeing the back, I’m inclined to say the textile was woven on a Jacquard loom. In the 19th c. it was fashionable to own tapestries that reproduced images from paintings. Collecting and displaying natural specimens was popular in the Victorian era (think taxidermy, pinned insects), so the moths may be part of that sensibility or they may have some kind of symbolism relating to the Angelus.
