Single or Double Vanity? Freestanding Vanity in Alcove?

We have 2 dilemmas:

1. We have roughly a 61" alcove for a vanity. We are debating between a single OR double vanity. I hate a double vanity because it takes up unnecessary counter space, and has less storage, BUT I know it's better for resale value. The bathroom is already very small (11.5 ft x 5 ft), so I hate to force something that doesn't fit.

2. We have an alcove for the vanity (walls on 3 sides). To avoid extra expense, we are considering just buying a freestanding vanity rather than a custom built cabinet. We're looking at mostly flush options, and I could add some quarter round on either side to fill the small space on either side if needed. OR, do we just get the custom built cabinet? What's everyone's thoughts on this?

Personally, I have never wanted two sinks in a bathroom....unless it is a children's bath. Don't like cleaning two sinks plus do you and your spouse use the sinks at the same time? I like the looks of the freestanding vanity.

We are almost never in the bathroom at the same time. I value the counter space much more

Do a single sink if that is what works for you... we are always using the sinks at the same time and we don't require much counter space so we only considered double sink vanities. We have a similar size alcove and went with a vanity that has flat sides and no top. We'll use fillers on either side painted to match. We bought vessel sinks and will get a top made to fit the space.

According to your plan, the vanity is not open on the left, but rather abuts a wall. I would not want a vanity with 2 sinks squished together and taking up all the counter space. If I were buying a house like that, I would factor in the price of the removal and replacement with one sink.

5' is a decent size (is there another place in the bathroom for make-up vanity?) but I wouldn't squish 2 sinks in there. be better to do a custom, floating vanity with a larger type of sink (off set) . this way you still get countertop room.

I like this type of vanity set up, even though it has two sinks.

Oh, and for maximum counter space, go with a wall mount faucet.

this sink is a little small, but it's made to go from wall to wall. If you put in a free standing vanity w/no filler, then you have a nightmare to clean. This just looks better, or like the next one:

If you did something built in like this, wall mount faucet, 18" sink, sconces, I don't think anyone would not buy the house because it didn't have two sinks! I mean, how many times are people going to brush their teeth at the same time?

We're trying to decide between these two options. The bottom is 60" and the top is 67". We have a pretty small bathroom space. I can kill the pony wall to make more room and space for the vanity. We like the functionality of the bottom one, but I know the re-sale value of the double is better.
