What do the cycle numbers mean

Hi everyone.

I recently moved to a new rental with a very old washing machine. The dial for selecting wash cycles only has numbers (from 1 to 10). Any ideas how I can know which cycle is which? The manufacturer is 'Gold' (I think).

Looking at a what I think is a different manual, the cycle dial has 16 positions. The top is OFF. From there, clockwise, is COTTON, PRE-WASH, 60*c, 40*C, 20*C ECO, EASY CARE, WOOL, RINSE, SPIN, HAND WASH, SPORT, MIX, SHIRTS, QUICK-WASH - 60MIN, QUICK WASH - 15 MIN.

Obviously, yours has fewer positions, so some of these won't be there. You'll need to find a manual.

Photo of the machine and control panel would be helpful. Never heard of Gold brand. Are you in the U.S. or elsewhere?

Elsewhere. And there is nothing to see on the control panel. There's 3 dials. One for temperature, one for spin and one for choosing cycles. It has only numbers on it.

I'm going to take a guess that it's a timer. I was able to find one at https://hackaday.com/2011/06/05/washing-machine-mechanical-timer-replaced-with-microcontroller/.

Gold: perhaps Whirlpool Gold, or Lucky Goldstar (LG).

I looked a bit harder and found it... Its a White-westinghouse, model number LW110. (Not sure why it says gold on the front).
