Yes! Thank you. We don't get Tulips here ... It's just too hot. The coldest it gets is 68 degrees at night in Jan / Feb but back into the 80s during the day. Amaryllis is more our speed.

Definitely tulips. Get your friend to look at some Daffodil images. They really aren't remotely similar. Those bulbs must have been prechilled in order to flower in your climate.

'forcing' bulbs to flower out of season is a thing in the florist trade .. as well as with home owners .. and its not that hard ... its the same idea for locations where they may not grow outdoors ...

I recently posted on seed stratification on my local FB group, which falls under the same topic of cold treatment. Years ago, I used to place bulbs in paper bags in the crisper of the refrigerator to winterize before planting them in the garden in March. Very familiar with the topic of forcing bulbs and other cooler climate plants, like holiday cactus. We get some beautiful holiday cactus in our local garden centers, people buy them, then wonder why they never bloom again. It's a matter of education.
