This is the first time for my patens too.

Don't have any myself blooming right now but still watching the seeds ripen from last summer's flowers. I don't own a Patens myself.

Barb, are the flowers from the terminal point. I know some sprout up a flower from the root ball.

Enjoy the smell. I love it.

The bud is coming from the terminal. I have never had one sprout from the root. Maybe my Coppertone will do that someday. I should get some pups after these two bloom. I will be sure to send you some.

Just bought a new Aloe hybrid today @ Home Depot and no place to put it. Just couldn't resist. Almost like Gonialoe variegata: Tiger Aloe, Partridge-Breasted Aloe which I hope is a hybrid of same. Best guess is Gasteraloe of some sort.

Maybe I'll post it for an ID. Nice large size for only $5. They just came in and they have about 6 more.

I do know what you mean Stush. No room here either. The older plants are getting big! That’s a very pretty aloe. I have one very similar, don’t know the name, but it has grown a lot.

Thanks Barb, The best I can come up with is Gonialoe sladeniana. It does look similar to my Aloe variegata. Or hybrid of same.

Closer & closer to open blooms! What a ham!

I'm not sure of the name of my sans...woodnative suggested it might be s. senegambica, but I noticed this morning that it's going to bloom. Very exciting! :)

I don't think Barb minds other sans blooming. This time of year it is slow here. I sure don't mine seeing.

Oh Jody, we will be happy to see anything at all blooming this time of year. It is so dark and stormy today, a little cheer is welcome!

Patens today

Looks nice, does it smell? Pleasantly? I have one sansevieria blooming now, it is a hybrid called 'Dragon Beard variegated'. The smell is not exactly bad, but it is overpowering.

First thing I did was google Sanseveria Dragon Beard Vaiegated. Saw some for sale ($40) but no description of what it is a hybrid of. Very limited info on this plant.

Actually the only information I have ever found (on Russian pages) is that it is a gracilis hybrid. And I am under the impression that this information - whether correct or not - is just mechanically copied from one page to the other. But it is a nice plant, rosette-type, with offshots on long stolons, leaves narrow and well-coloured. And not fussy, good grower.

Barb, are you going to brother to pollinate the flowers? No point unless you want to cross pollinate with some thing else to create some thing nice.

I have a Bichon myself. Most affectionate dog I have ever owned.
