Need advice with redoing our living room

We just got our ceiling re-textured because of a leak, and so we decided to repaint the walls and get new carpet and furniture! Super excited but am overwhelmed as I am not good at decorating.

We have a typical 2 story house, with the living room to the left as you walk in the front doors. The measurements are 15'10" by 13'4". The long wall has the 8 foot window. Room opens to what would be a dining room, but I made it into a reading room.
Paint is going to be Benjamin mores Edgewood gray and carpet we haven't picked out. Here are photos of the room , although they aren't all current.
I'd like help Picking out and arranging furniture. When the kids come home there's 7 of us so I'd like a lot of seating. Thank you!

HIWE, it wasn't much I was saying. I get stressed. Balance - is it that 2 chairs near white lamp makes it 'side heavy' -- I am curious...

Everdebz...yes so that it doesn’t look like a bunch of furniture in a row...chair..table...chair...table...a floor lamp on the left will help keep that side of the room from looking heavy..unbalanced...

Ok, and thanks for taking a moment to explain !

You asked whether identical pillows should be on the chairs? But what's the status with sofa pillows? are the blue strand ones there? Personally, I wouldn't bother with a second lumbar - seems 'full' as is.

So I don't have pillows for the chairs, my question is do I shop for the same lumbar pillow for both chairs. Or do I put a square pillow on one, and a lumbar on the other, or two matching pillow-one of each chair. Yes I still have the blue strand pillows on the couch. I swear there aren't any pillows in this whole town lol. I was thinking of ordering something like these for the chairs.

oh wait I just realized I had ordered those other pillows lol. I'm loosing my mind. So about the end table in the corner..I'd like to keep it as it took my forever to find it, refinish it so I'd have two of them. I'm happy to get another lamp instead of the tall one on the right, if you think that would help. The company that made my other lamp doesn't have that one anymore. There's a similar one from a different company but has a rectangular shade I'll try to find the picture of it again.

I ordered four different pillow---I'm so excited. But they won't be here until the 20th, which seems so far away. I think I'll just not think about stuff until they come, then I'll post again thanks for all your help!!!

Sounds good can’t wait to see what you ordered!

Two pillows came for the chairs and the colors look very nice. What do you think of this table for in-between the two clue chairs. IT might be a little dark and I usually don't like glass, but this caught my eye. The other pillows haven't arrived yet.

also, I will change the pillows on the couch so they don't match. Then I'd like to order the "almost" matching lamp I posted 4 days ago. Is that a good idea??

I think you need to clean your camera lens the photo is foggy...they look a bit too cream not white?..table is cute how tall is it? How high are your chair arms?

You're right my camera was filthy! Here's a better photo. Yes it is a bit creamy more than white. The arms of the chair are 22 1/2 inches. The table above, which I don't have my heart set on or anything I just liked it, is 22 1/2 high and 18 inch diameter. So that won't work? Should be alitlle shorter?

Also what do you think of me ordering another lamp that pretty much matches?

I like it, and its size. :)

I see nothing wrong with the similar lamp to your current one.

And the round, fine, and "softening." How wide is it...

the table is 18 inches diameter, I think I'll keep searching to find one not as wide.

I would put the chairs closer together and only add a small round side table next to outside chair..just keep in mind you don’t want the width of the 2 chairs plus a table width to be longer than the length of the sofa...when do you get other pillows? The lumbars are ok..not wide enough should be width of interior of chair and not sure you need them on chairs...

Julie now I see what you mean about putting the chairs closer together. They won’t be centered on the window but towards the right, is that what you were thinking. I put this table by them just to get an idea but it won’t stay as it has its own spot elsewhere

Center the chairs to the window..than add small table off to the left...they look so much better..because they have straight arms and a mid century style that set up just works🤗

I would remove the lumbar pillows for sure those chairs look best without...I would add a throw on one of them...

I’ll find a little table for the left. Seems like a lot of room on the right

Put on table between the chairs

Looks great..you should have space between side of chair and end table/sofa.....change takes time..you are so used to seeing that area filled..you need to live with it for a week..visually you will adjust...your drapes are too long you need them hemmed and I would add another panel on each side and extend the drapes more on each side..all the way to the finial.

One pillow came and I was so excited, but it's not at all like I thought it was. Kindof dull looking and off white.

The round table could become any color - from art I usually think of a warm of gold or a bit burnt orange....

I love the mustard pillow! Next time I’m ordering all pillows at once, because now that I have the mustard....not so fond of the blue lol

So cute! Put the blue and white pillow behind the gold one on one side they look great just need to be stacked together...
You found another lamp! Can you match the shades?

Just checking in...did you add the blue and white pillows under the new mustard gold just layered like you would do two pillows together.

    I tried.

Oh the mustard in back and blue up front is great..it pulls all your colors together!

Do you have two of each? Do that at each end and stand back and take a photo..love it....are you able to get matching shades for your lamps?

I really like the yellow pillow. I only have one

Jeanne, I haven't spoken up on this discussion before but wanted to alert you to something I just saw now. The two chairs in the second image in your original post show the backs of them, and the legs on the left one appear to be weirdly bent. It could be the angle but I really think there is some problem.. You may want to check them to be sure they are okay.

Thanks Aphaea, the legs do turn now and then. I’ve got different chairs now.

Fresh looking! And with new white lamp too... like my siblings, one has round head, and the other is squared. ;) a joke... so with light background for the pillows, it's good.

Hello again my Houzz gurus!! You were so kind to help with my living room 5 years ago and now I need your help again. Same room, but the corner near the stairwell. I posted in Dilemma’s under “Empty stairwell wall needs help”. I’ve pretty much kept the rest of the living room the same as 2020 when I posted for help!

Just thinking about the little secretary desk could be moved straight on the wall where that living room chair is and the chair can go on the staircase wall delivering room looks nice the way your style did other than it's good too change out the walls to the color you want in the rug
