Red Light and Cuttings: does it help?

Somewhere in my voluminous readings on rooting, I came across research indicating plants like red light when rooting or something to that effect. Has anyone here experimented with this using roses? Would one just cover whatever light with red plastic? There's still plenty of winter left here for me and I thought I'd mess around with trying to grow some cuttings from my own roses, many of which aren't even dormant this year, so I thought I might incorporate this into some of my experiments if it's worthwhile and easy to do. : ))
