It seems there are two of these threads. You should declare one dead.

For starters I'd plant something sufficiently tall and dense to hide the van and basketball hoop next door.

My yard is full of Fruit Trees of all sorts. Also tropicals. I am slowly losing my yard which, as it turns out, is great. Live in Houston, Tx.

I would plant fruit trees and tropical flowers. Think about what kind of fruit you and/or your family would actually use for eating, making drinks etc. Plumeria would be pretty. Maybe some type of 'island' flowerbed to soften up the hard lines of the front yard. Maybe a water feature to attract birds.

You are lucky you dont have to worry about stuff getting too cold. I have lots of sub/tropicals..some are rated to zones 10 or 11 so they go in the greenhouse for a few mos in the 'winter' here in FL.
