I was just going to say switch two sofas. Pull rug and sofas toward fireplace too. Can you float them?

The paler is prettier, but the room will look nicer with a borderless rug. The border limits furniture placement.

The darker rug feels harsh and out of place.
I think you could easily add more interest to the room through art.
Alternatively you could find a subtle, pale carpet that is more interesting.

Thanks to everyone who voted or wrote in. I appreciate it so much. We took the dark larger rug back to the store and kept the smaller, paler rug. We are very happy with our choice, and I appreciate you taking the time to weigh in.

Love the lighter rug and believe you made a nice choice. When you add artwork, have fun with it. Focus on bringing in what you love vs. trying to match the other elements in the room. You'll then create a personal, unique space with spark and personality.
