Giving up on bananas.

I was told it was 'Ice Cream'..but its not. So after five year and a few crops..out it goes. Not worth using precious water on a banana plant that does not have sweet bananas. Plus,the winter haggard look...hate seeing that. Even if they are sweet...so much water!..and one bunch or two a year is a long wait and very short harvest.

I had planted a HASS avocado very close to it and now I can let the tasty Avocado have the whole area. Once cados get rooted deep in the bay area? They need very little water to do fine. Average at most for under ten year old trees..older trees don't even need anything but rain water.

    I was told by someone who would know, that most of the "Ice Cream" bananas sold here in the US are really dwarf Namwahs. I have some that were sold as Ice Cream maybe 10yrs ago and they definitely arent. They arent bad tasting but not Ice Cream lol. I grow a stand of (dwarf) Rajapuri's now and they are good for my sometimes Dec. freezes. The hands get big enough to pick before then and they are tasty. They are an Indian banana and can take some neglect and dont seem to be total water hogs.
