Paint or refinish?

Renovating the guest bath in my house.

The bathroom door is across the hall from the foyer and I am using the foyer flooring as the color palette for the home. Pulling in the blue greens, gray purples and touches of deep reds.

Here is a picture of my foyer looking toward the bathroom - complete with drywall dust. All of my furniture is MCM teak.

I have replaced the counter top and work is being done to replace the tub with a larger soaking tub.

The counter is ice queen

the current cabinets are solid red birch and need TLC.

My original plan was to paint the room BM Beach Glass and the Vanity BM Stonybrook or possible Night train.

Here is a picture of Beach Glass and Stonybrook with the foyer floor and the LVT that will be in the room

I am struggling with the decision to paint the cabinets. I generally dislike painting solid wood cabinets, but I don't know if the red birch works with my teak and the general clean design. I am a bit adverse to a lot of pattern in anything.

What would you do?

Paint the vanity cabinet
Restore the vanitiy cabinet without staining - just clean and clear coat
Gel Coat Stain the cabinet - if so, what color?

jck910 , I live here by myself and I enjoy a relaxing bath. The master is smaller than the guest bath and has a standard tub/shower combo that was in decent shape and didn't need to be replaced. (Replaced the toilet, sink and vanity in that room and added a rainshower shower head). The guest bath tub, sink and toilet were peach colored and original to the home. (Also had black counters with gold fleck and black and gold wallpaper.) The room is wide enough to house the tub I picked without moving any walls and the only plumbing change needed is to move the drain and faucet plumbing 1 1/2 inches.

Since I seldom have guests I will be the one using both bathrooms. Shower in the master, bath in the guest.

The bathroom is under construction, so not much to see. . .

Had the vanity top r installed before the rest of the reno because getting 2 done at once save over a grand - had to purchase x linear feet to qualify for free install and discount.

You have to make the decision, which goes best in your house, painted or stained birch cabinets. I had walnut stained birch in my kitchen and since they went with absolutely nothing in the house, I did paint them. They do paint up nice, as long as you do all the proper prep, and use the correct paint for cabinets. I am very happy with them. Normally, if cabinets are in good shape, I really hate to see them painted. But there are times, it works out for the best.

Thank you cat_ky, you hit my struggle on the head. "DON'T PAINT GOOD WOOD CABINETS!", I think I can make them look great without painting, but will they ever feel like they belong?

Yep, thats it exactly, will they feel like they belong. Only you can decide that. You could maybe stain a color that will make them feel like they belong, since you dont have all that many and could strip to bare wood. Good Luck to you.

There are no circumstances that painting the original warm wood results in a better more cohesive design. The result will be cold and generic. Restore it to keep the original design intent. Warmth.

Try to refinish the wood cabinet. It will give you more visual depth than those paint colors, which could get to be very matchy-matchy.

Design Girl - I hadn't even noticed the base plate. The tops were installed and the plumber put the faucet in place. I know the measurements for the tops couldn't be done until I had selected the faucet, so I assume they only drilled one hole.

I vote for staining to a shade of brown. Please don’t paint.
