Family room help!
This is our most-used room and it has been driving me crazy since we moved in 10 years ago. It isn’t very large and there is some sort of opening on each side, making furniture arrangement difficult. The off-center bump out just complicates things more. I am ready to start over with all new furniture but I don’t want to purchase anything until I figure out what should go where for maximum seating/comfort.
For reference, the bump out is 18” x 116”. The opening from the family room to the dinette is 119” wide, and the doors to the living room are 70” wide. There are TV hookups both over the fireplace and between the two windows in the bump out.
We are willing to remove the small walls between the dinette and family room, and/or to close in the opening between the living room and family room, if that would give us better options.

Sorry here you go. Keep in mind that pretty much everything in here - sofa, chairs, rug, lamp - is a “refugee” (aka stuff that’s migrated here from other places so we can still use the room while I decide what to do). I know none of it matches or looks good with the current paint color (which I’d also like to change). The sofa is in front of the doors to the living room because the kids were getting cold with it by the windows and it’s too wide to put in the doorway facing the TV.

We have tried the sofa in the bump out, but it pushes it back too far from the center of the room and kind of shifts the whole room away from the fireplace and toward the dinette. This is both our main daily living area and the kids like to lay on the sofa, so just having four swivel chairs would not work for us. I thought about something like this with two smaller sofas facing each other, maybe with two smaller chairs on the end facing the TV, but not sure if that would be too much furniture in my space.
