wood laminate in bathrooms...water and wood do not mix well. How about wood look porcelain tile planks?

The moister will definitely screw up the laminate. Have you considered tiles that look like hardwood?

The budget solution - great vinyl wood planks - at the high end they look cerused and are very difficult to tell they aren't wood unless you touch.

We have laminate wood floors in our small bath, hate them i can not wait to get rid of them. I would never have chose them, they get wet not good. and if you have a little one that misses sometimes. you also have that smell. When I change them, it will be tile.

Do NOT use laminate floors in a bathroom you don't intend to re-floor in a year or two.

Some brands are designed for moisture resistance such as bathrooms. I have had it down for 10 years in a bathroom and no problem. It was a quick, easy fix and cheap . I wish I did have a problem so I could change it!

That said, look at your family and who will be using it...are the splashes, do the run the fan long enough?

I also have vinyl planks in a small bathroom - terrific and they can be very smart looking.

I m agree it can be done with wood but it depend how many people use that bathroom if its traffic there you get so much moist ,my sister has expensive carpet on her bathroom and nothing happen on the bathroom since she is the only one taking the shower there,but it can be negative point if you decided to sale your house in future.

While wood flooring is absolutely gorgeous, I would recommend staying away from it in the bathroom. As moisture gets under the planks, they will begin to expand and pop up and not look right. I would go with the tile porcelin option Norma posted above or a stone, either marble or tile is always gorgeous and timeless.

You can do real wood in a bathroom if you use a substantial spar finish like wooden boats use. But I don't know if that kind of finish would work with laminate.

I'm with everyone else. They make fabulous porcelain tiles and you can use radiant heat underneath. I love my bathroom, especially in the winter months. Warm toes!!

You can get porclain tile as large as 8 inchs x 8 ft long if you do not like the 2 ft or 3 ft lengths but they are pricey.

I would never suggest to a client that they would be fine to install even a "moisture-resistant" laminate in a bathroom... After all it says moisture-resistant, not moisture-proof. Yes you can try to eliminate any hassles by running silicone along the edges at walls and around the toilet, and by using a "sealer" on the joints, but still I wouldn't trust it. The problem for me in my mind is that laminate, just like all other woods is predominately a paper/wood product, it needs to expand and contract, so what do you think will happen to the planks/boards if you silicone the expansion gaps? Would it still be able to expand and contract as it should? My answer would be no. Honestly go with something like Fiberfloor by Domco or Easy Street by Taiga, or simply stick with tile. Will cost more initially but the savings in the long run will be well worth it.

I saw that in the store but thought it may break if we drop something on it .. it felt so fragile. Is it durable? We have a busy busy home. I was considering the laminate floors that look like hardwood in my kitchen as well ... is it ok for kitchen or should I go with the porcelain there as well? @deidrer your floors look amazing!!!

Porcelain tile is very durable!! My 8 yr old son accidentally dropped a coffee mug on it & shattered the mug. I just knew when I got all the glass up it would've chipped it somewhere. Nope! Good as new :) if you will be laying it yourself just make sure you read up on it first. It doesn't lay like wood does because the pieces are so long. It's staggered at I believe 20%. We have 1/8" grout lines on ours. I would've loved 1/16" but it doesn't lay well that way. We had our professionally installed by a local guy.

Check out HomeDepot.com for Allure vinyl flooring. it looks exactly like laminate flooring in all the nice wood grains as laminate.

NOT TO FORGET - waterproof wood look vinyl flooring. Check with Lumber Liquidators! You can put it right over you existing flooring.

I have to inject something else positive - porcelain is ALSO cold to the feet and this vinyl does not conduct or transfer the cold as much. We know, our large bathroom is over the garage and we live in Wisconsin!!!

In addition to being cold, porcelain tile is also very hard, and slippery when wet.
