If that picture above is your cabinets, then please dont mess them up painting the uppers white. They are beautiful. Only thing I see lacking in that room, is a bit of color, in accessories etc, so the room, looks very bland and a bit uninteresting. Another wall color might work a lot better than what you have too.

I'm with cat_ky..I wouln't paint at all. "Tuxedo" look works better where there's an uniterrupted line of uppers..otherwise you risk for it feeling too chopped. Alllover layout is important to see too, any chance you can show us other angle?

But in any case, I wouldn't paint these, frankly. I'm not a big fan of espresso usually , but I think these work well and don't require any paint. I'd add color/texture/both, in accessories, maybe island chairs..texture for sure, if you want to keep it more or less monochromatic.

Plants, fruits-useful and color and texture too.

Maybe if we know your "why" we can make other suggestions.

Maybe there's not enough light, and you think white will brighten it, or maybe you just want to do something different, or..

Direct us a bit more, and the advice might be better tailored to you and the kitchen.

I am *also* not generally a fan of this color cabinets, but I think they look great. I wouldn't paint them. I'd repaint the walls. I don't really like the counters but Idk if you'd want to mess with that.

I agree with what everyone else has said. Don't paint the cabinets but DO paint the walls.

With that layout I'm not sure I would do two tone. And I love two tone (I have it). We only have a fridge surround that goes all the way up and we decided to keep that white like the uppers, it is on an end.

I looked at the listing too and now realize that "paint the walls" isn't as simple as I thought. I like the wall color in the rest of the house, but not so much in the kitchen. I'm not sure how one handles that with such an open plan.

Thanks everyone. I've attached another shot showing the full length of cabinets. I am coming from a house with a white kitchen, navy island, and hood so this is quite different. I really do like the layout, i don't LOVE the counter but will have to live with it for a bit. I thought the white might give it some interest. I'd also switch the hardware to a muted champage gold. ALso thinking of adding a vent hood over the cooktop rather than the microwave/cabinet combo.

I agree on the vent hood over the cooktop, rather than the microwave. I would leave the cabinet above the microwave though. It still looks a bit blah to me though, because, there is such a lack of color in there. If you cant paint the walls, at least put some color in there with curtains, and maybe a few colored accessories (colored mixer, maybe, etc) o the counters. It looks sterile and unused right now. Maybe a colored mat or rug in front of the sink. Colored towels, anything to break the blandness. The kitchen itself is spacious, and very nice. I think your counters are fine.

Maybe wooden vent hood? I've no idea how much they cost I must say.

I looked at the listing as well-I hope it's allright-I think the kitchen does look a bit sterile and a bit ..not like the rest of the house. A bit too.. straightforward if you compare it to the rest? Because the house strives to be more traditional. Maybe what's bothering you is this slight dissonance. It's still slight, one can easily work with it. I think your direction of changing the hardware can be very good one. Not sure about the exact shade but you'll check it against other things there. Maybe softer, curved lines as well. Yes, add color, texture, have fun with accessories..connect it through color etc to the rest of the house..if other light fixtures stay and you like them-I might go for different pendants, not that it's needed but a great way to indulge yourself nevertheless, and relatively affordable and easy. I think everything that will signal "I'm a part of" will be welcome addition. Start small with things you both love and can use-and I think you'll be happy without any big overhaul in this kitchen.

I second a vote for some glass uppers with nice lighting. That could be just enough.

Put a colorful patterned runner or two on the floor . You have a runway there and they will show up and lift your spirits . It’s just too somber .. no big changes/ just tweaks . It is a workhorse kitchen . Put some pretty valances or panels at those windows and colored things on your counters. Big dramatic pendant lights???
