Windsor Window Reviews

We're doing an addition and would love to know people's opinions on Windsor Windows, specifically the Pinnacle Clad. We love the look of an all black steel window but even Arcadia's Steel Look line is coming in too high. Would especially love the opinions of contractors who have installed them or homeowners who have lived with them for years.

Thanks so much!

Windsor in mine and most every pro I am aware of's opinion an average at best product. Fit & finish, customer service, performance wise they have been lacking as long as I have known. Now they will on here and say they are different now and my experience has been in the past and yes this is true but I have not yet seen any pro come one and defend Windsor.

Hey Windsor, I'm baffled by the comments on the Houzz site regarding your product. We are in the decision making phase, having narrowed it down between Marvin/Sierra Pacific H3/and Windsor Pinnacle.

We saw your product in the showroom, and the exterior color selection is spot on with what we're looking for. I SO WANT to move forward with your product- just wishing for more positive reviews from happy customers.

If we take the leap, we promise to give full reviews.

Thank you for your reply, I will certainly check out all that you have posted.

Im specifically interested if you know of any projects that feature matte charcoal- I haven’t seen a project yet in that finish (or even a sample) so it’s hard for us to move forward on this large project with product unseen.

@Brandi Holmes - I'd be happy to have a sample swatch (or swatches) sent to you - PM me on our page. Here are the photos I have, although color in photos can vary widely depending on the lighting. I believe the first house is matte black, the second is matte charcoal gray, and the third is matte black.

    Thanks!

Truly appreciate your message. Our salesperson here in DFW had ordered a swatch to be delivered to us, which we received on Friday. the Matte Charcoal is lovely- really the color we're looking for. Don't suppose y'all have any Cyber Monday deals to push us over the edge, do ya??? :-)

@Brandi Holmes - Glad you love the color! We don't have a Cyber Monday deal to push you over the edge, but we do have a promotion on our matte finishes: Same price as our Standard paint color line through 12/31/2020. In addition, the 2604 matte color finishes are backed by a 20-year warranty. Sweet, right? Be sure to ask your dealer about it :-)

After norco, windsor is probably the second most common failed window that we are removing for replacement. Thats my answer to the original question.

    Ugh. That’s disappointing

    "Ugh. That’s disappointing"

So are Windsor Windows, no matter what the company states. You will not find one reputable pro that I am aware of who would recommend Window anything, period.

I was set on Windsor for our new
House, and that’s what we got. Pinnacle line. They are very pretty but boy, do they leak. Our salesperson is blaming everything but the window. We are at Sheetrock finishing stage and painting on the outside. Discovered tonight that yet another window is leaking. They leak near the bottom corners along the sash. I am doing research and have just discovered a class action lawsuit that was settled in 2018 for the exact same issue we are having. Guess they didn’t fix the problem. We are meeting with window rep tomorrow and depending on how that meeting goes....will be calling an attorney. Very frustrated.

Brandig- please keep us informed on how this progresses. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this.

@brandig - I am sorry to hear of your frustration. I checked with our service department and understand that the RSM has since been out to inspect your windows. His inspection determined that the water is coming in from the rough opening corner pads on the nailing flange, which indicates improper installation and not a fault of the window construction itself. He is arranging for the dealer to send out installers to re-install, which should fix the problem.

I hope and pray it’s a simple fix. Like I responded to you guys on Instagram...when we ran water ONLY on the glass, the window still leaked. The corners and edges were dry. We did that to specifically rule out the window. It’s getting in from somewhere, that’s for sure. Now also another window is doing the same thing. If it’s the installer, we will know next week.

    Still leaking. 🤦‍♀️

I'm sorry to hear that. I've sent this new information on to our customer service department.

No! Really???? Installer came out and corrected installation and windows still leaking?
So what is Windsor saying comes next?
Very interested in their response here b

The blame is on everything but the window itself. I recently learned this has been an issue with the clad windows in the past. The window in question is $425. Most companies would make it right and install another window instead of saying water is coming from everywhere else (even though zero evidence of water anywhere else on the wall). What is happening to us (blame wind, rain, no gutters, installation guy, etc) has happened many times before. This is not our first build....we aren’t idiots.

brandig- did you say that you are in the construction phase of your new home? We are the same. Cabinets going in presently. We did extensive research prior to deciding to go with Windsor- after reading some of the reviews, if felt like a risk- but we had a multitude of questions and assurances between us and the company- who promised to stand behind their product. Our investment was huge, and I will hold them to it.

Windsor- everyone is watching how this situation with Brandig is handled.

Six of one, half dozen the other. Neither are a good window.

I bought a new house package of Pinnicle Clad with doug fir. Paid $50k. I received some very heavy and looks like good quality. However, I have a slider window that leaks water. I had casements that were out of kilter. I had many damaged in shipping. They use thier own trucks to deliver to the local dealer. I bought these because they came with a 20/10 warranty. However, unlike Sierra Pacific Windows (which I used in the past for same style) or Coeur D-lane windows for high end vinyl, they only send you parts if they determine they want to. They do not include any labor. That is on you, even if they have not been installed yet. Quality control is horrible. I had all mine prefinished at the factory. Over 50% of the nail holes were not filled in, corners had chips, etc. My dealer is frustrated because they get the cold shoulder also. I would never recommend this company as they are all about selling with zero follow through. They make their warranty too difficult to actually use. Then deny any warranty if you need a repair.

Go with another company that services what they make with thier own techs.

So, what company does that? Especially at a reasonable price point?

@MWM, you don't seem to like any window brand/model that people here have asked about. So, what brand/model would you recommend for new construction?

Here is some feedback from personal experience on the Pinnacle Clad Wood windows. I used the double hung windows in Dark Bronze color for every window when I built my custom home in 2013. I have not had a single leaking window since then, granted we do not open them much due to the climate in Charlotte, NC (two long seasons, cold and hot). The only issue I have noticed is slight fading of the finish on south side windows. My friend has the same windows and he says, if you use auto polish, then come back looking like new.

At the time I bought them, they were manufactured in Monroe, NC, just a few miles from home, before Millgrain purchased them. I believe, they are now manufactured in the Midwest as well. This is just one person's experience.

" @MWM, you don't seem to like any window brand/model that people here have asked about. So, what brand/model would you recommend for new construction? "

That's because all the brands mentioned above are crap. Andersen, Marvin, Kolbe, LePage, Loewen the wood, aluminum or composite lines. OKNA, is a solid vinyl offering, many are regional so if you give a region could help more with vinyl,

I will give an update here, we’re 3 years out from moving forward with our decision to install Windsor Pinnacle Clad for windows and doors on our entire home.
Windows- we’ve been pleased and have had no issues, they’re beautiful.

Doors- Trainwreck. They stick, hard to close, hard to open. Have had numerous people come out to adjust them. Have been told they can’t be adjusted any further. We’ve raised the issue to the Windsor sales rep who has not been helpful. While beautiful to look at, if not functional, I can’t recommend them.

@MWM, I live in NC. OKNA is not a brand I have come across, but will do some searching. Thank you for the feedback.

Windsor Windows have been a nightmare for us. The order is delaying our building site ten weeks and counting.

Having dealt with window companies in over a dozen different countries over the last 30 years, I can confirm Windsor are the worst. I cannot comment on performance yet as we don’t have windows. I can however confirm that their leadership is rotten.

We have been misled by Windsor multiple times. Windsor have said our complete order was on a truck on its way to site (in a very arrogant tone from their regional salesman when questioned for an update of status). The following morning the same person said the windows were not finished so nothing shipped. Later that week their quality control manager explained they did in fact ship all the screens. What good are screens if you have no windows. (The local supply company later confirmed that this was a lie, no screens had been received.)

This complete lack of communication has continued each week. The window package is now starting to arrive a few a week. No one at Windsor knows what has been completed or what is on the truck. It’s a weekly grab bag of miscellaneous window parts.

This has meant incredible delays as the window installers can only do a days worth of windows each week. No one knows when we are getting the rest or what they are shipping out.
Their head of plant quality control says you will know when they arrive. You honestly could not make this up.

Their reason for the delays is that our order was made and half the order (30 windows) did not pass inspection and had to be remade. Let me tell you that inspection standard is not very rigorous as we have already rejected $20k in doors (all doors made wrong) and several windows that are going back.

Even with these extreme delays and this level of error their ‘quality’ team is unapologetic and very abrasive. Their regional sales director has disappeared. He ignores messages or defers to the quality control guy who takes no responsibility for any of the issues and is incredibly disorganised.

I can’t imagine what Windsor will be like to deal with if there is a warranty issue. Right now they are miserable to even get a window package to site. If you have an option go with anyone else. If price is not an option, go Marvin. In the US Marvin are the best. Windsor were a big mistake for us.

Anyone having issues with Windsor windows in the winter? we live in the Midwest. The past two winters, since these windows have been installed, we get very excessive moisture on the inside of the windows. When it gets below zero, we have a layer of ice along the base of the glass in the INSIDE of our house. Winsor assures that it is ecause we have too much humidity inside our house. Our humidistat hovers between 30-35%- well within the EPA recommendations of 30-50% in winter. Regardless, ice should never form inside your house unless the defective windows are below 32 degrees. Note: I DO NOT have this issue with my cheap Menards JenWeld sliding patio door that was installed during the same time frame.

Curious if anyone has issues with Windsor Windows during the winter? we installed Winsor Windows 2 years ago and habe nothing but problems every winter. We live in the Midwest and have had some very cold streaks of weather the past two winters. When the temperature drops below zero, we get very excessive amounts of moisture on the inside of the windows . When the temps become very cold, that moisture turns into a layer of ICE on the INSIDE of the bottom of every window they installed. Windor says we have way too much moisture in our home and that the windows are perfectly fine. The humidistat in my home hovers between 30-35%- well within the EPA recommendations of 30-50% in the winter months. Regardless of the humidity, ICE can only form if the temperature of that window is lower than 32 degrees which should not happen in anhouse set for 68-70%—unless thewindows are defective. NOTE- I DO NOT have this issue with the ”cheap” Menards Jenweld sliding patio door that was installed during the same timeframe

Windows are not defective, they are doing their job. The Jeldwen patio door is just a more leaky and now sealed as well product. What is the humidity in the house? What type window coverings do you use?

We have had our Windsor windows and doors in the new house we built for 5 years now. They have the black metal on the outside and wood on the inside. We installed them in 2020 and had several issues with the windows. It took for ever to get Windsor to correct. One of the windows has a serious bow but because it seems like it will never get taken care of and it doesnt leak we decided not to reach out. The bottom seals on the doors have torn and one came that way and I tried for several years to get new ones but can never get them. Not sure i would ever go with Windsor again.

I have sold windsor product for the better part of 10 years now. Currently sell them in Savannah, GA. The issues I see from them all come out of Iowa. The Monroe, NC plant that makes pinnacle, legend, legend hybrid, and the new next dimension seems to have way less problems. The Legend series is by far the best series they make. I have had minimal issues with Windsor Legend and have sold hundreds. The pinnacle double hung is very weak and windsor realizes this and are currently redesigning it.

In 2018 I moved into my new home in Mount Pleasant South Carolina and about a year after I moved in I started having issues with the Windsor pinnacle impact glass double hung windows. Out of the 44 windows that were installed, 14 Windows were incredibly difficult to open and on many occasions the springs in the jambs would snap out of place and the slide bolts would break off. Builders source who supplied the Windows and Windsor sent in a consultant on two separate occasions but nothing was ever resolved. My builder, (with the exception of delays due to Covid) has repeatedly tried to repair the windows to no avail and cannot get any satisfaction out of the suppliers.

A few weeks ago, I spoke to the regional sales manager who is based in Wilmington North Carolina. He was very helpful and got back to me to say they could not help as they windows were out of warranty. Additional emails to Windsor have gone unanswered. In doing research it appears that there was a Class Action lawsuit against Windsor for pinnacle Windows around the time mine were installed. Any suggestions anyone has would be greatly appreciated..

" What I forgot to post is that Windows are so out of alignment you can see light coming through the jams "

Not to stick up for Windsor as I cannot in good faith stick up for their crap product, but that on it's own is most likely an installation issue.

How about some pictures? Have you checked the jambs/frame for square, plumb, level?

Unless the frames are somehow improperly made (highly unlikely) the light coming through the jambs is usually an example of poor installation (i.e. shimming, proper screw placement and numbers, and level, square, plumb issues).
