Hi: if it stains and scratches easily, it might be marble and not granite. It is also probably in need of sealing (which you can easily yourself with a spray sealer and soft pad). Counters should be cleaned and all stains buffed out before you seal.

They are really pretty. If they are marble, you have to be more careful with them re hot items, cutting food on them, etc. even unsealed granite will not be as resistant to hard wear, but marble is more delicate as are other types of stone

I think it is White Zito granite. Granite will stain if it is not sealed. Particularly the light colors. Your local granite supplier will have products to seal it, and there are special cleaners you need to use - Windex is not allowed! People say granite is no-maintenance, but it really is. But it is worth it. Sealing twice a year and using the special products is not that bad, for the gorgeous look.

Thank you, yes that helps, i will get a sealer, the previous owner who purchased it said it was granite but I was surprised that when I cut food on it ( once! And never again) that it scratched. I was under the impression that with granite you could do anything without harm. Having said that I love it and wouldn't go back to a non stone counter!

I was always told that only two things would scratch granite and that was another piece of granite and diamonds. If it scratches when you cut on it then it's something other than granite.
