I would do sheer curtains with plain roller blinds. You would be surprised how much privacy sheers give you. I have a den that is on the side of my house with a huge window 20 feet from my neighbor. For years I kept the drapery closed for privacy, but the room was so dark. Just recently I bought sheer panels from Country Curtains and installed them under the drapery. I check to see if any one could see through them from the street during the day and night. White you can see big shapes it is like look through a fog. So now, I am so happy to open up the drapery and get the light in.

For your bedroom, I would install sheer drapery with plane blinds under them. The blinds are easy to roll up and down to control light and give you more privacy at night. See: and I have had plain roller blinds in all of my bedrooms for more than 20 and just love them. These were not expensive, either. The curtains come and go. The blinds stay.

Window film gives you privacy during the day. You can see out but people can't see in. At night it reverses so you would need curtains that you pull across. These you could pick up inexpensively at any outlet that have ready made curtains.
