That is a heck of a bathroom. Is landscaping and option?

@scottie mom indeed they're facing west. It's a little garden area within the stone wall. I originally tried to build up the stone wall and create a properly private/enclosed area but the HOA didn't go for it. @Windows on Washington Ltd it's a big open room with a small shower and toilet area, we're getting ready to renovate it and are considering changing the windows as part of the work given the 'situation' with privacy.

Since the HOA nixed you changing the height of the wall I would suggest checking with them BEFORE making changes to your windows.
Are there other homes in your development with the same floor plan? If so, see how your neighbors have dealt with this issue.

I am also looking at shades for west windows that need privacy at night. I am interested in what you come up with with. I have been looking at designer shades with a backing or getting a blackout liner.

If you change the windows as part of a remodel, that opens up lots of new layout options because you could create wall space where things can be installed. I echo the suggestion above to check the window rules with your HOA, and then you will be able to create some better layout options.

It's a small HOA and there are no identical houses, so lots of flexibility. The reason they didn't like the wall idea is that they don't want to hide the houses behind solid structures -- they did suggest a green wall, however. So it feels like there are different options here, I've been looking for example projects of folks with the same challenge. I like the idea of having more light come in and making the bathroom feel "open", but not at the expense of privacy given it's facing a street.
