My Crocs are permanently just outside the back door. I had on Christmas ornament socks with them yesterday. I don't have any pictures, by I am sure I look like a homeless person wandering around the yard most of the time.

My DH is only mortified when I run to buy mulch or something in the Crocs.

I dont really have any whacky outfits but I basically look homeless if Im cleaning out chicken pens or have to dig holes or something dirty.

I wear those ugly ankle bog boots because they are the only thing that holds up several yrs and are waterproof even when the first layer of rubber cracks.

The head band is an old faded bandana and is an essential part of my garden attire. Otherwise I get blinded by the sweat rolling into my eyes.

I just randomly steal my husband’s sweatshirts or old t-shirts and wear leggings with garden boots I found at the tractor supply, or dirty tennis shoes. I also have some good sweaters with lots of wholes I wear around the yard.

Seil your outfit is way cuter than the stuff I wear around here :). Some times if some one shows off without calling I have to just run like crazy to change. I love the purple color also. You look happy and so relaxed in your picture. Happy gardening!

Honestly I need some new pants but I have gained so much weight so nothing fits and I hate to buy more pants when I have a closet full of pants.

But one wrong move in these pants and, well lets just hope I'm in the backyard.

Ha ha - Kristine had to laugh about the crotchless getup. I have listened to admonishment for years for that.........I pretty much look like a hobo. Comfy too big shirts/pants from Walmart, and whatever shoes from there look like they can hold up. My summer sleeveless shirts are going to have to be updated - so many holes I might as not be wearing anything but they arent totally falling apart. Its very obvious where my money goes - roses not clothes! My gardening tools are another matter - I just spent more on a superb pair of hedge shears and a spear head spade than I have spent on gardening clothes in years! But hey - the roses arent complaining!

Kristine, my favorite pair of gardening shorts were recently retired after the crotch wore out a second time, and I nearly ripped the paper-thin leg off catching a toe putting them on! Growing up on a farm/ranch we had everyday clothes that we'd wear to do chores or play outside and town/good clothes, and I still catch myself wondering at times if I should change out of my old gardening clothes to walk the dogs because I’ll be out in public. I can still hear my Mom say "I can't wear that to town, someone might see me!" The neighbors are used to seeing me in my yard or walking the dogs, but I probably look like a transient person foraging to the other half walking past. I've even had a few people over the years ask if I'm the gardener and if I'd be willing to do work on their yard. Yes, I am the gardener, but I'm working on my own yard!

You know those clothes you have that are so worn, stained, and ripped that they are one step from the rag drawer -- those are my gardening clothes.

My faded garden clogs are the classiest part of my outfits.

No crocs for me -- too much dirt and water enter through those holes.

Here - minus the crocs - is what I was wearing when I opened the door yesterday to the postman. What doesn't show up, is how dirty they were!

Nancy, I agree totally about the crocs, but I'm usually too lazy to put on my lace-ups.

I won't show pictures.... but I have a pair of the crotchless jeans too.I reserve that pair for pruingdays... but nobody really sees anything because my oversize shirt hangs below it..... I just have to remember not to pull weeds on those days or I might give the neighbors a show...... but they would probably change the channel.

My gardening outfits aren't so bad: the obligatory old t shirt and shorts...but what catches my neighbours' attention is my large and wacky straw hat. I felt I hit the jackpot a few years ago when I saw this huge straw hat at the NW Flower and Garden show. The thing I love is that there's no top, so my hair (which is huge!) can be piled on top of my head and stick out the top. I'm in heaven!

I started out with crocs, but didn’t like the dirt and water getting through the holes, so I changed to Sloggers garden shoes. They are really comfortable but the dirt still gets in if I dig holes, so I changed to Slogger garden boots (buy 1/2 or 1 size up) and love it. It’s important to wear socks when wearing Slogger boots to keep the inside nice and clean. I ordered them from Amazon.

I wear jeans, a thick jacket, and a hat, and they have saved me from the thorns many times.

I've tried crocs and hated them. Too stiff for me. I got blisters on the top of my foot. I can't do boots because the shafts on them won't fit over my legs. I wear my oldest pair of top siders in the yard. What else would you wear in a community who's known as the boating capital of the Great Lakes!

I love the ones w the lips lol. I have to have very tough farm chore boots though. I love some I saw with chickens and cows on them (forget the brand) but they probably wouldn't hold up so I didnt order them. I always get sidetracked when going out to the garden by some kind of animal drama or someone needs new bedding, is fighting & causing mean girl drama, or spilled water or feed or escape artists or........ I end up climbing fences, chasing off intruders, catching escapees. Lol

I love this thread! I try to wear old clothes and a jacket (in the winter) along with long undies! I freeze most of the time, except for when it is 110 F. I still wear long sleeves even then as the mosquitoes are so bad and I am trying not to get bit or sunburned.

I do wear an apron as it will hold a phone and/or clippers. I buy myself cute, washable ones unless I am on official master gardener business. Then I have to wear the master gardener one. I treated myself for my birthday/Christmas and now have three different aprons to wear. So if one is in the wash, the other is ready to go. I love Emma Bridgewater, so my aprons were from her website (on SALE!--at the time).

My boots (I do not have toothpick legs so tall boots won't fit me), I wear Joules (I think that is how you spell it) short boots and clog types of shoes during gardening and when it rains. I LOVE them as they fit my wide feet perfectly.

I've had the red Sloggers chicken boots for years.I don't want to get bit by a snake.

Im always thinking i should go to the goodwill store or somewhere and get a bunch of white mens loose, button up, thin cotton shirts so I will have long sleeves and maybe still be a little cool.

Those rubber boots are cute.... don't think I will be getting them for gardening.... too hot here in Florida my feet sweat even in sneakers.... My gardening shoes are either my old sperry's or old sneakers.... which ever seems to go first become my next gardening shoe.....

Those boots remind me of the ones I use to wear in the spring on the farm growing up.... only those were black not PRETTY.... in fact they would have been too pretty to wear on the farm.... can't remember how many times I was chasing hogs and would step out of them if you ran through the "muck" .... you would be about five steps out of them from your momentum and then have to go back and retrieve your boot...... just to put you cold wet "mucky" foot into the boot...... all these years later I can cringe and laugh.

As for the crotchless pants.... it really isn't a trend.... it is just thrifty.... or least that is what I tell my husband.... though he rolls his eyes and tells me I can afford new pants.... but growing up without much we always had to "make do" so unless the pants are what I consider really bad I continue to wear them.... My mom use to get upset with me if she would catch me climbing a fence instead of walking to the gate because I would get a rip.... both my parents are gone now, but boy I would love to show them catalogs with pre-ripped jeans for sale.... EXPENSIVE ones.... I guess I set a fashion statement.... so you better be careful cause there appears to be more than one of us with the crotcless pants.... it might be a "thing someday"

Christine, I like the idea of wearing makeup doing gardening.... in fact there was a time I would not have been CAUGHT dead without it.... I use to be cold all the time and I would NEVER sweat even if it was in the 90's.... now I can work up a sweat even when it gets down to 50's..... I would come in from gardening with makeup smeared and running.... Too many of you look like you are gardeners who step out of magazines.... I LOVE the look.... but I love the look of skinny models.... and I have about the same chance as being a skinny model as a garden model..... did I tell you about the proverbial bull in a china closet.....

I have to wear old/worn out clothes to garden. Ruined a couple of work slacks on thorns just perusing the garden and deadheading after work.

Rockridge, the flex jeans are as comfortable as PJ and even if they got damaged a bit by the thorns, people just think you paid a lot of money to get distressed jeans :)

Before I discovered Sloggers boots, I bought a pair of Michael Kors boots 1/2 price at TJ Maxx 4 years ago. It looks so cute but the dirt still gets into it when I dig holes, and the Sloggers boots with higher shaft came to rescue. Helen

This is a fun thread. Those of you that have Crocs, if they are rubbing anywhere on your feet you can put them in the dryer for just a couple of minutes then stretch them until they loosen. I have about 10-12 pair that I have had to stretch because I have a very high instep. A warning though, if you let them get too hot in the dryer they will shrink.

mustbenuts....I love your apron selection! Having a patterned apron would help with looking less dirty as well.

sharon 2079....the only problem I ever have with the hat is when it gets windy and tries to blow off! It stays on really well when bending over...it's on there pretty tight because I have so much hair.

rockridge rose....sometimes the apron gets in the way a little, but it's so useful! Also, I cook a lot and wear an apron for that, so it seems natural for me to wear an apron while gardening. If I was down on the ground weeding for a long time, I'd take it off.

I am often gardening in my "regular" clothes because I'll run out to do something quickly, then get distracted and before I know it it's been an hour. Somewhere I have a picture my husband took of me gardening in a leopard print blouse :) I was pulling weeds....in some sort of frenzy...and trying not to get the blouse dirty...hahaha.

Roselady, me too. I am just going out to enjoy my yard and the next thing I know I have the clippers in my hand. I'm in flip flops and a sundress which is snagging on thorns. , Or, I reach down to pull some weeds without my gloves without even thinking.

I will start wearing apron though because it is a perfect place for phone and clippers .

I have Sloggers but they get so mud crusted that they weigh 10 pounds, although, maybe that would be considered working out.

The weather has been so nice this week that the pruning is almost done. So, the pants are getting a lot of use and this could be their last hurrah . Time to hit the Goodwill

They’re open at the sides so dirt can slide out. They’re waterproof, and the cut outs keep them cool in the summer. Also nonslip soles.

I put the tshirt on the bed, and Daisy immediately took possession of it. As for the jeans, they are oversized and roomy, which is good for gardening. I just have to remember to wear a belt... otherwise they’d be down around my knees.

You can’t see it, but the tshirt is a souvenir of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. I’ve seen a lot of midwestern small towns, but PDC is my favorite. Right on the rolling Mississippi.

The jeans’ green stains don’t show up in this picture, but they are there.

For those of you who wear ripped jeans — why? You could sell those on eBay for $75 a pop. The stores are full of pre-holed pants this year.

If you want great rubber boots Xtratuf makes really good ones. I like how soft the rubber is on these boots. I got their tall boots for sailing in cold weather (one suggestion, learned from experience -- don't use them in the garden and then take your boots on a friend's nice white sailboat without scrubbing them thoroughly!) These boots are seriously good -- given the amount of rain we have around here I use them a lot.

I thought I would hate wearing an apron. I only started doing that last year and I found I really like it. Great for picking one or two pieces of fruit and putting them in your pockets, Great for the cell phone and my clippers don't get lost. Also keeps my clothes much, much cleaner and less mud stained.

BTW, I wear men's long sleeve t-shirts (shout out to Eddie Bauer). I can pick them up for cheap at Sam's Club (or when Eddie has them on sale for 50% off on-line) and the sleeves are nice and long and the shirt covers my bum when I am bending over. They are also roomy enough that you can move in them and they are of cotton which is much better for working in my garden when it is 110 F outside. The sleeves are too long so I fold up the cuff and it makes it so that bugs can't get up the sleeves and on my arms to bite me. Men's clothing like this tends to be cheaper than women's clothing, so another win. Plus, they are made well and last! Even with thorn holes in them.

Another thumbs up for Sloggers. Made in the USA, affordable. As I recall they are made of recycled materials.

Never would have thought these would have captivated me, as I am a recovering goth from high school, and hate all things girly. They only came In lavender in size small so I bought them with a heavy sigh. Much to my surprise, I love them. I feel like a fancy princess. The rest is Siouxie Sioux black. Happy gardening, friends!
