What about a rug and a small round table with 4 chairs.

I think I’d use it as a mini “Keeping Room” ....have a comfy chair and small side table, maybe lamp, maybe small stool. It’d be great for coffee, reading, reading to the kids, whatever. What about the chair and table by the TV? Looks like it would fit well.

Another idea is to clear the console (you could hang that picture up on the wall it’s leaning against), put it in front of the window with a lamp on it, candle, pretty bowl set, or cookbooks, etc. It’d be very cozy and give you more room near the back doors and to walk around the couch.

Seeing Beverly’s mock-up, that’d be such a great spot for crafts and projects, kids’ snacks, etc. Forget my idea, I like AC LB and Beverly’s idea. 😄 My sense of dimension was off and I didn’t think a table would fit. But Beverly’s mock-up made me see there is enough space.

Agree with others. Round table, 100%. Even if you don’t use it to eat at, it’s great as a homework space, to set groceries down, pay bills, you will use it all the time. I have a very similar floorplan:

Love the molding to the ceiling in Rebecca’s kitchen. Brighter with out those shadows at the top. I would put a chair or attach bookshelves to the end of your island so you are staring at that flat panel. Then follow her lighting plan.

How much distance do you have between the end of the cabinets and the child's table?

How about something like this? It will help fill the space but be out of the way.

You could put it in front of the window.
