Birthday party food

Anne
last month

I am starting to plan a 50th birthday party for my husband. It will be a surprise with 100-150 people in a local event center. Maybe 7-10 with a DH. They dont require that they provide catering. I am thinking about bar-b-que from a local place or an acquaintance who is phenomenol. What extras are important ( I don’t know how I can make food when hubby is at home!) I don’t want to spend a crazy amount but I feel like I worry about not enough! So beef, chicken, slaw, beans , cake, what do I need to add to round it out.

Also any suggestions for a basic self serve bar? Thank you!
